Even the red capper is quite different. Not griping or diminishing other guys trucks, just wanted to make sure I'm seeing that correctly.

    Yeah yours looks great.

I should be getting mine real soon. I am interested to see how the blueprint match ends up coming out.

Snowing here today so I can't wait to get mine.

This is great, thanks, but I wouldn't say no to the other pic you mentioned! :)
I'm glad to see that the cap is actually at roof line, as opposed to lower than the cab roof line like ARE's caps look to me on several Rams and GM trucks. Thank you!

Leer had their 100XQ Sport for the '22 Tundra at SEMA-- I applaud the fit and modern design touches. The frameless pop-out windows are awesome, as is the interface with the tailgate. Color and finish are spot on. The sloping rear window/door does eliminate some space in the bed, which isn't something those of us with 5.5' bed can afford. Mostly, I hate the Leer business model and dealer network, so I'll spend my $5k elsewhere.

RSI Smartcap had their fit for the '22 Tundra at SEMA as well. Fit is good to cab, but the interface with tailgate is wonky. Could not get inside for inspection.

Had a 100XQ Sport on my previous Raptor, shell fit great and sealed well, but the spoiler ended up separating from the rest of the shell slowly and cracking. Leer and their dealer both were not interested in warranty claims saying it's from opening the shell too rapidly (spoiler, I'm not going to guide the lid all the way up every time). So I mended it as best I could and told Leer they lost a long time customer. Unbelievable for the cost.shell.jpg

Ranch Fiberglass had their Echo model on a '22 Tundra, a fairly typical fiberglass offering with good fit. More interestingly, they will also soon offer a fit made with a closed-mold construction process which will provide enough strength for RTT or other heavy loads. Their sales reps and CEO were on site, something not seen with the bigger manufacturers. While they claimed to be responsive to customer questions and support, and offered business cards with phone numbers and direct email, a quick look at their website shows zero way to contact the actual company... much like the other manufacturers clinging to the old n busted business model.

I have an older 100XQ with the same windows. Unless they've redesigned them, the windows barely open and you get very little airflow in the summer.
Even at night it's way too hot, and they're the only screened aperture, if you open the front window and back window of course you'll get eaten alive by insects.....

Looks very nice, but honestly I wouldn't mind the less sexy sliding window style.

Really? How so? even though I already pulled the trigger on a Leer, I'm still interested in a SmartCap.

This was pretty much my thinking as I chose between the 100XL and the 100XR. I like the XL and XQ looks better but for our uses and desire for ventilation the 50-50 sliders of the XR are superior and still look good.

Really love the SmartCaps. The build quality on the few that I've seen IRL has been top notch. I suppose that it better be for the price point. Did they indicate a possible release date for the 3rd Gen caps? At first, they said they were targeting Q4 of 22 but then lately I heard it got moved to late Q1/early Q2 of 2023. Not that I'm in a rush. It'll take a long time to convince the wife to let me pull the trigger on a $4500 bed cap. haha

This is intriguing. One of the reasons I've been so focused on the RSI caps has been their load rating for the top. If Ranch comes out with a fiberglass cap that supports that weight, then I might have to look in their direction as well. The only trouble with these reinforced, closed-mold fiberglass caps is the cost. For what most manufacturers charge for a reinforced fiberglass cap (high $3k/low $4k)...I'll just go RSI with an all-metal construction. Now if Ranch released this $2700-$3200....then they might grab a ton of market share.

Side note: Regarding your comment on the busted biz model...I 100% agree. I said it in another thread, but my 2 previous experiences with caps have both come from purchasing used caps. This was the first time I've ever gone through the dealer model to get quotes and it's been super frustrating. I got a quote on a Leer from 2 different locations of the same RV/trailer chain and they both gave me different prices for the same specs. Infuriating. I don't want to have to wheel & deal like buying a vehicle. It's a friggin bed cap. :frusty:

Bullshit. I put a Leer XR on my 2012 that I bought used. It had a windoor on it and in 6 years never leaked once. I ordered/bought my XR brand new for the 2022 with a windoor on the right side (same as previous) and it does not leak.

just going off what the brass at leer told me. We traded some gear for a topper and I wanted windoors and he told me do not get them- could be a recent QC issue. They did just discontinue them, not sure if you saw that in this thread.

    Yes, I saw that.

The dealer I bought my shell from passed along some erroneous info from her 'Leer rep' which I questioned right to her face. Turns out when my shell finally showed up, I was right and the Leer rep was incorrect. My point is, you are passing along what someone told you, I am stating my first hand real world experience... past and present. Take it or leave it.

Just got my Leer 100XR with windoors last week. Ordered in June. My windoors don't leak but don't open and close properly, dealer says he can adjust. The inside of the top came with pretty raw fiberglass. Mat fibers are sticking out all over. No paint or gelcoat. I wasn't expecting finished but I wasn't expecting this. Dealer says he will talk to Leer and see what they will do. My impression is they would leave it this raw if carpet were to be glued to it but since I didn't want carpet they should have sealed it somehow. Anyone else have this too? The outside looks great and the rear door looks, works, and seals great. Once issues are resolved I'll be happy.

Do you have pics of the crappy fiberglass?

My Leer is carpeted, so I can't see what's going on underneath, but I'm curious....

What's everyone's thoughts on the longevity of the Softoppers? Would love to hear from anyone...especially those folks in the SW...about how it holds up over time.

For ~$900, I'm intrigued by the price point and the flexibility. I like that there is a design that allows you to put a bed rack over it while it's still in use. I could go with a Softopper, a bed rack, and a moderately priced RTT for what I'm looking at paying for an RSI SmartCap or a reinforced ARE.

I had a softopper on my tacoma for 8 years in Eastern Canada. Held up great in my opinion. I lost a couple of snaps, but nothing that couldn't be replaced easy. I sold it to a guy after so I assume it is on year 9 now.

I just wore a mask and sanded mine with 80 grit sandpaper. It didn't take long and now you won't spike yourself reaching inside through the windoors. If you coat the inside with a sealer you will still have the spikes here and there that will nail you if you aren't careful. A quick sanding does the trick.

I just got mine a few weeks ago and the windoors don't seem to leak. I've had windoors on every Leer topper I've owned since 2008 and never had any issues with them. You might be able to blow water through them at a high pressure car wash if you try though. I still wouldn't have a topper without them.

Thats what I'll do if I can't get the dealer/Leer to do it for me and seal it.

Just a price point update for anyone in the Southeast looking for a LEER. A few calls around Alabama/Georgia area and the best price I found was in Montgomery, AL at Bazzell's Truck & Camper.

    LEER 100XR- $2300
    LEER 100R- $2200
    Keyless remote- $150
    Removable front sliding window- $150
    Windoors - $190ea
    Thule tracks only- $220
    Headliner- $125
    Install- $150

I recognize there are other options available, but these are the only ones I asked about. Much more reasonable price than other dealers in the area. I placed an order in October and should have delivery/install by the end of November. I went with windoors so I'll be checking for leaks immediately. I have a 6.5' bed so I'll also post pictures of the thule tracks for anyone else interested in track length. I assumed they would be adjusted for the length of the shell, but this forum now has me worried that the tracks will be comically small for the size of the shell.

I'll be sure to provide updates when it arrives for anyone interested.
