    A bunch
If it wasn't for money most of us would be in either 1 ton top trim level or high end sports car. The new Tundra is certainly better, just think for many of us it's not better enough to spend the money on

Gonna be fun watching idiots over boost and blow up this way over complicated pos aluminum engine

The only factory forced induction engine done right was the 4G63 by Mitsubishi.
Cast Iron Block is KING :bananadance: matched to aluminum head.

My 4cyl Eclipse had 550hp on 28lbs of boost daily driven for years trouble free.
    Seen many around 800hp.
    Max raced out to 1200hp.

Ask all the dodge neon SRT4 and newer aluminum Evo's, Subaru's and Audi owners about their aluminum turbo engines lol.

Aluminum + forced induction = trash

    Simple fact, aluminum is WEAK.
Can you spell block girdle? :bananadead:

Warpage, holes in block, melting, seen it all.
    Worse design ever.

Gonna be a real shit show with the new Tundra when people try to mod it :poking:

While i am skeptical about anything more complicated, the turbo v6 aspect seems to be the least of things to complain about with the new model

If you're not hitting the EPA ratings with your current truck, don't expect to in a different one. The 22 should give you better fuel economy but I doubt it will be 10 mpg better.

I think the sound of the V8, in particular with the TRD dual exhaust paired with some supercharger whine is worth missing personally. I enjoy it everyday and I actually look forward to hearing it every time I get in. Can’t get enough of the sound. Listen to this through some quality speakers. Especially around the 4:30 mark. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=GWCjKdsBAiE&t=315s

All these threads are the same with a different title. I still read them though. If I didn't, I wouldn't have realized the new Pro is missing a lot, most importantly the trailer back up gizmo. So, now I would need to buy a Limited OR and swap grilles and color match or buy the lowered Sport, all at MSRP. It makes no financial sense to get rid of my 2018 Sport with 26k miles. I don't want to start again with mods and 2018 was a good year for the Tundra.

I have a 2012 Tacoma with a factory installed TRD supercharger at purchase. It has 60k miles and I'm never getting rid of it. The newer Tacomas will never be like the old ones. The V8 Tundra could be the same way. For about $10k, I can have the dealership or Toytec install a Magnuson supercharger. I bet the new Tundra is fun to drive, but not like the supercharged V8. Tuning the new Tundra with unsolved turbo issues requires money to burn, especially if you kill your warranty.

I'm gonna pass on the new Tundra, get some Methods and a supercharger, and call it a day. Granted, I have a leaky cam shaft tower on the driver's side, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. No supercharger without a successful repair.

Have had 4 previous Tundras with 2019 the last one.
Had good luck with all of them. Modded them in various ways and overall good experience.

With that said…I wouldn’t trade this 22 for any 2 of the four previously owned.

Wasn’t it taken away at some point for the 2.5 Gen? I know it wasn’t standard and a CM only option.

Nope, all crewmax for all Tundra's have had (or at least the option) of the rolldown window.

CM only, yes. I don't think the new DC gets a roll down rear window either.

I apologize for misspeaking with non factual information, that was just something I was told and I ran with it. I looked it up and it was only optional for the CM and CM only. Now it’s standard on the CM and from what I read a while back (before the release) the DC was getting it. I tried doing a build on Toyotas website but it’s down for maintenance. Can anyone with a double cab chime in?

@KroppDuster can you chime in on the rear window for DC’s

Never seen a Crewmax of any year without it.
Never seen a double cab of any year with it.
Seems like that hasn't changed at all.

The DC only has the small glass slider in the middle of the back window. Similar to "old school" trucks. It is power operated using a switch in the same overhead console position as the switch for the full-size roll down window in the CrewMax.

Having looked at both the DC and the CM, I feel like the back wall of the DoubleCab is much "thinner" than the CrewMax. I don't see how a DC could even be optioned with a full-length roll down window.

It was available on first Gen DC starting in 04 and I know 05 had it. I’d assume 06 as well, idk

There is not enough "clearance" in the back of the DC, for the motor unit used with the roll down window.

Yeah, it can be kind of confusing.
1st gen double cab is a crew cab. The smaller 1st gen cab was called an access cab. On 2nd and 3rd gen Tundras, big crew cab is called a crewmax, and the smaller cab is called a double cab.

So I guess the 1st gen "double cab" had the roll down rear window, but that's because it was just what they called the biggest crew cab offered at the time.

Certainly don’t miss 12 mpgs but I realized some of that was my fault (Methods, 62lb 295’s, 3/2 lift, etc) and not pure engine comparables

So it’s a different approach with this truck

Don't worry; if you do all that to the new truck, you'll get down near that familiar 12 mpg real quick. Edited to add: My guess would be 14. Added weight and rolling resistance of larger tires and lifting the front end of the truck which is far less aerodynamic will put you in boost a lot more. I get 14 in my '21 with 285/75s and a 2" level up front. I'd probably get 15-16 in a 3rd gen with the same mods.

Stay stock (especially no level or heavier tires), and never drive over 65mpg to get Toyota's stated MPG. :headbang:

I said this before in another thread after I put on the leveling kit and bigger wheels & tires....

As long as I'm averaging better combined gas mileage than the V8, then I'll continue to be a happy camper. Unfortunately, I drive a lot more than I used to, but my taste in trucks hasn't changed. That's a bad combination. haha. I still build out my vehicles for the once or twice a month I hit trails.

I just did that just now, platinum. There is a little turbo lag that you dont have from the 5.7 but it moves smartly none the less, likely would dust my v8 tundra.

as far as the fake noise...

I thought it was really out of place and too much on this trim level and truck. it doesn't even sound like a good V8.

I would just want that turned off and have some quiet and then hear the boost noise here and there, so mark me down for one that thought it was too much

This. With my completely stock '20, if I keep it under 65 and accelerate easy, etc., I've gotten 18-19MPG at times without too much trouble.

Absolutely not. Far more power and torque. Not to mention the power exsists through all 10 gears. Add a JB4 tuner chip and stock blasts to over 400hp and 500ft lbs
