I think there is a difference between the 2. I think TC uses braking and chopping power to get traction, where I think Auto LSD only used braking without power reduction. I could be wrong as it has been a while since I got into a situation with my old 2nd gen. that used it.

Yes, traction control and AutoLSD are two different things.

AutoLSD has never worked in any 4wd mode in the Tundra.
1st Gens had a true LSD I believe.

Except in the MTS modes in the TRD OR models.

From what I'm gathering, the non-TRD 4x4 have Auto LSD but only works in 2H. That seem less than stellar.

Are you seeing that it doesn’t have auto LSD at all?

Window sticker on my4x4 says I have it. Owners manual says can only be used on 2WD models.
Looks easy to use, so maybe window sticker is wrong? I think most likely it works in 2WD, easy enough to check in both 2WD and 4WD with a quick push and release of the traction control button.
Update: I tried to activate as described in manual for 2WD Models, it does not activate a dash light indicating A-LSD is activated.
When in four wheel drive with my 22 Tundra 4x4 on harder dirt, it feels/acts like it has a posi, inside wheel is trying hard to turn the same revolutions as outside wheel. Not sure what to think, possibly a limited slip but not a A-LSD?

I am the OP and that was my original question. My manual says only 2WD models have it. When I hit the traction control button while in 2WD, it turns off the traction control but there is no other indicator that AutoLSD or any other traction aid is active. Looking at the websites for Toyota USA and Toyota Canada, the USA site states it has LSD and the Canadian site makes no mention. So either:

    1. US models have it and Canadian models don't (i doubt this is the case)
    2. Neither models have it and there is an error on the Toyota US window sticker and website
    3. The 3rd gen has it but there is no indicator that AutoLSD is active/available (also doubtful)

Toyota Canada referred me to the dealer...lol. So they didnt know either :)

The great mystery... The 2023 brochure states that the non-TRD 4x4 is equipped with auto LSD, with a footnote label (67). When you go to footnote 67, it references smartwatches, so definitely a mistake there. I can almost understand a mistake in the labeling of footnotes.....almost....but I can't imagine they would print references to Auto LSD when the truck does is in fact equipped with Auto LSD.

Yes, looks like 4x4 is either atrac or mts. Auto lsd only for 4x2..

Father in law has a 2022 1794 Non TRD 4WD.
Looked at the window sticker and it clearly states in the mechanical section of the window sticker that is has the electronic AutoLSD.
However the traction control button only turns traction control off. There is no visual indicator of AutoLSD like in past generations.

Roger that, we are wondering if the Auto LSD works in 2H and 4H/L, or just 2H (if at all).

It sounds to me like AutoLSD is just brake based lsd without engine power reduction like standard traction control. So basically, just A-trac but for 2wd.

It does seem stupid to not have it in a 4wd truck when in 2wd

To me it seems Toyota owes an explanation…..
Does the 2022+ non TRD 4x4 Tundra have A-LSD or not?
Why does the Monroney sticker say my truck comes with A-LSD and the owners manual says different?
How are you going to make this right Toyota?

And if they got rid of it why?
Seems to me it is all computer based. All the parts/sensors are likely still there on the trucks without (if that is the case now).
While I am not a fan of the system overall and would far far prefer an actual mechanical LSD inside the rear.
    It is better than nothing.

We just need this guy to buy a 3rd gen Tundra and do the same test.

I am now leaning to the idea that it is my option 3....

He did say earlier in the video that he was in 4WD, so I am wondering if it is his front wheel's traction pushing him backward up that hill and not a limited slip on the rear axle. If he was in 2WD at the time, then it would confirm a capability.

Hoping someone that actually uses their 3rd Gen for off road use to chime in on this subject that applies to every single 3rd gen 4x4. Does the the 3rd gen 4x4 have A-LSD as advertised on the window stickers and brochures or not? Owners manual says it does not, and I haven’t had success getting clear explanation from Toyota about how it is supposed to work.

I opened case with Toyota three weeks ago and have not gotten an answer as to why the window sticker says different from owners manual. It appears to me the 22+ 4x4 Tundra does not have Automatic Limited Slip Differential as advertised.

Yeah, ALSD is essentially worthless. Had it on my 2009 Tacoma Sport and it only worked in 2H with a button to turn it on/off. I mean if you are in a situation where you need extra traction it is easy to just pop it into 4H. I mean, you can engage the ALSD and try that first... but why? I think it is sad that Toyota doesn't give us real mech LSDs.
