Nope, never seen that in my life. It's a bit more tolerable, still looks like a royal pain in the ass to have a laptop screen strapped to the console. But to each their own :D as long as everything can be controlled without the screen, then I can see the merit.

Does your phone and tablet also have knobs and manual buttons? It's almost 2022. Touch screens are not a problem. Billions of commands are sent a day via them. Now software... that's another ball of wax.

    Agreed, but I'd argue

    1. Phones are not quite as complex as a vehicle is, given all of the electronics in a vehicle, all of the systems they control, etc.; and
    2. I can live without a cell a hell of a lot easier than I can live without a vehicle.

With pretty much anything in life, it's always good to have a backup. If my phone dies...I can just go out and buy another one, have calls redirected to my house/work, etc.

If I have serious issues with part of my vehicle, anything from it not starting to being froze out to locked out, etc., can happen. I don't know that *EVERYTHING* needs to have a backup, but for damn sure the 'critical' stuff (e.g., locks, HVAC, etc.) should.

Yup everything can be pretty much controlled without having to use the screen. I tow a few times a month and having that big screen showing my cameras when backing up to hitch up my trailer makes life so much easier!

I wonder how long my smart phone would last if I connected it to a paint shaker and let it run. I like haveing a big screen but would prefer mobs to handle most controls for simplicity and reliability.

Im not driving and fucking around on my phone, and yes the screen is still an issue on my phone if my hands are wet or greasy. If you want to molest a screen go ahead, but the simplicity of knobs and buttons is superior imo. The ram having physical controls and a screen for cameras or whatever is cool, but seems like plenty of reviews I've seen you need the screen to adjust everything and go through multiple menus to turn your seat heater on, fuck that.

You're definitely in the minority. A majority of consumers prefer the big screens in almost all industries. The auto manufacturers are merely suppling the demand of the majority. We have a saying in our business, “adapt with the times or die in bankruptcy” .

example, just saw this new gas dispenser by This weekend.

Regarding your statement about cell phone power, I don't disagree with that, but considering that our vehicles have cellular, GPS, BT and tons of other technology in them, that's why I mentioned what I did about critical systems. I dunno that I'd say that HVAC is as critical as, say, windows, but it's darn sure more critical than a radio.

Regarding your statement that "For the short term maybe, but I can have my cell summon me a car. I can't have my car summon me a cell. If given 90 days to only have 1, I'd take my phone", I can't have my cell summon me a vehicle where I live. They'll tell me to perform a certain act. LOL I'll give up my cell for a vehicle any day of the week, as an IT guy; I can't wait to get off the phone(s) every day.

Last time I saw one of those, it was out of commission in 3 days, for about a week or so.

My biggest concern is the reliability of this thing since this is my first "American" truck. I made the switch because the Tundra towed like shit I will give you guys an update on the reliability as I continue to drive it as I expect to rack up the mileage pretty quickly

a lot of cranky ass window shoppers in here. don't buy it if you don't like it :annoyed:

i'm in process of buying a new Toyota (non tundra) and every Toyota interior we've played with is leagues beyond anything else we've looked at. they're solid and not bubbly feeling like GM or Dodge, great placement, and futuristic feeling. if they do anything to the tundra that they've done to the rest of the fleet, it'll be sick. like the rest of the lineup - small screens are a cheap trim, large screens are a higher up trim. you get what you pay for.

I can't believe I'm "liking" so many posts from @Coal Dragger today.

I would love a PA in my truck. I would get into so much trouble with it.

Many CB radios have the option to hook up a PA speaker, could kill two birds with one stone.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.

Yes, because we all still watch TV on 15 inch CRT TVs and use flip phones with 1x1 inch displays...

Progress.... The Ram interior properly displays what that looks like.

I don't disagree. The Ram (and my JL Rubicon) have knobs for that very reason. But a lot of functionality is tied to the screen inputs. Works very well IMO.

150 interior is a B+ for looks, but prolly C- for ergo as per usual. Dodge has them all beat for ergo and looks, IMO

Somehow, with solid zero in reliability, these guys are still incredibly innovative. I’d never own one, but I admire their ideas:

I dunno man. I could go for having a PA system. even better if I could broadcast from it remotely from my phone while the truck is parked. Imagine if you will that you're asleep in your apartment at 0400 when you get woken up by some mouthbreathing fuckhead who has decided it's the perfect time to let the neighborhood know that he has shitty taste in music. You grab your phone, activate the TRPA (Toyota Remote PA), max the volume (about the volume of a fog horn or fire engine siren would be good) and then proceed to berate said mouthbreathing fuckhead in the most obscene way possible.

    I am as well.

When it comes to ordering fast food a touch screen can be great. When I am buying gas or pulling cash at the bank, touch screens are great. When I'm doing something on my phone or tablet touch screens are great.

When I'm driving a car and want to change what's on the radio, or adjust the bass, or anything else, a touch screen isn't great. Physical buttons are better so I can keep my eyes on the road. I don't want my truck to be a wifi Hotspot and I hate the term "infotainment".

That said, I'm not looking to buy a new truck so I don't really care if it has a touch screen. Let the majority have what they want, it's sensible from the sales perspective. It probably will lead to distracted driving but a great big 3rd gen is easy enough to avoid on the road.
