Update: I originally had this problem in early February, part arrived last week, install (due to my scheduling conflicts) occurred Tuesday and Wednesday of this week and I'll let you all know if anything funky happens upon actual driving. I only really drive on the weekends, so about 6-8k miles/year.

Build date is 2/22. They replaced the turbo charger and said the waste gate was bad.

Posting now as I’m stuck. Within 100 miles of the “fix” I got the reduced engine visit dealer again. 5 miles after the message the engine sputtered. I pulled off an exit and the engine fully died on the road. I lost all power and had to shut it down. Started it back up and moved 20 feet and now waiting on a tow.

This is my biggest fear. A new truck with a problem that reoccurs. Mine still in shop which will be two weeks tomorrow.

I thought I read that Toyota blaming the original issue on a bad supply of parts and now we see a reoccurrence after a repair. Beyond troubling. Have there been others with a repair that failed?

This is the first repair that I've heard of failing and I've been following a few different forums. I'm not on faceplant though, so I can't speak to reports coming in there. Faceplant being what it is though, I'd take alot of the griping there with a large grain of salt (not to say I discount reports, but I feel there's alot of reposts and probable trolls).

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Sorry to hear that, please keep us updated.

Are you going to keep the truck at this point or Lemon Law it?

Got the truck back today. Apparently one of the hoses wasn’t hooked up correctly. I'll drive be driving it through the mountains this week again for the ole test again. The paperwork I received from the dealer doesn't even have what work was performed. Just says the normal inspection was completed.

I hate to hear that you had the problem, but glad to know you found a dealer who would treat you right. It's also good to know that the turnaround on the turbo was quick (relatively speaking). Hope this doesn't tarnish your love for the truck and that it gives you years (or decades) or reliable pleasure.

Can't wait until I can order my MY 23 truck!

I posted the miles question on one of the 22 tundra facebook forums, and some people report of > 1000 miles and one with 5k miles when the wastegate failed. We thought it was an early production turbo batch, but now that we see Feb builds dates, that sucks! Can't toyota trace them down to a p/n or a batch by now? I feel I am driving a timebomb with my Feb 22 production date.

I’m a bit surprised Toyota hasn’t released anything official. I have heard so many excuses for what is wrong with them. But trucks are still coming off the production line with waste gate failures. Some with thousands of miles.

I may get flamed, but want to throw some common sense and reality into this discussion.

I am the director of sales for a company that manufactures wiring harnesses and cable assemblies. Our products are used in RV, marine HVAC and lawn care spaces among others. We assemble/manufacture a final product utilizing hundreds of individual components from switches to wire to connectors and terminals. Literally 100s of components for a harness.

Toyota sources a turbo from a manufacturer similar to my company which assembles a turbo unit from hundreds of suppliers. Turbo units don't just happen... It's not a single component.

In this severely constrained market the "supplier" may have to use alternative components, ball bearings, grease, housings, machined products, connectors, cast parts etc.. those alternatives/deviations typically, have to be approved by the end user (Toyota). That being said failures happen, corners cut by 3rd and 4th tier suppliers happen.

Failures are happening among all truck, boat, camper, washing machine, etc manufacture's. This is reality. They will continue no matter what until the market corrects and recovers from an unprecedented interruption called COVID and massive government spending that incentivized not working. Even then, they will happen.

What's the difference? Well I've owned new Toyota's (Scion) Dodge, Chevy, Cadillac and Hyundai products over the last 30 years. Who will make mistakes that happen right?

Of all the brands I rank Hyundai the highest in standing behind their product followed by Toyota. Nothing is perfect, but do you try to make it perfect? Do you constantly strive for customer satisfaction? I say Toyota does.

Hate on Toyota if you wish, but I bet you're the same person who rips someone on Facebook but wouldn't have the nerve to stand in front of someone and say the same incendiary thing to their face.

Or probably more likely you're just a bitter hater, jealous that someone else has a new toy you can't afford and you take joy in their problems instead of sympathizing for their temporary frustration.

I enjoy the banter of this board about whose lift is higher, the tips on how to do something, how to make things better and love to see pictures of members rides, their joy and happiness. To the haters.... Peace and joy! Karma is real and so is happiness!

Reading this thread makes me cringe on the issues that are coming up. Just received my truck with 3/22 build and 450 miles with no issues thus far.

@RDJ25 Welcome to the forum! I'm at 500 miles with my 3/1 build and no problems. I'm on the same page as @Tidechaser meaning I know Toyota will make it right IF I encounter problems down the road. A manufacturer truly standing behind their product and making things right is what I look for in a long-term investment such as a new vehicle. Stop stressing out and enjoy your new trucks!

Your 10 paragraph manifesto was mostly agreeable until the bolded... because that has not been my experience... and I'm having a difficult time finding any academic textbooks explaining its process.

Observe any combat zone with actual skin in the game, then try to wax that same bit of logic for all the 'collateral'. You can't.

@RDJ25 and @Tidechaser - You can disregard the trolls in this forum that don't own a 2022. That's the one and only thing I'm disappointed about in this forum is the trolling. You're going to love your new truck and if by rare happenstance something does happen to it, Toyota will make it right. Signing off this thread...

Just to give a little context of possibly why Toyota has not done a vin notification. My comments are not to induce outrage, just explain sub-component lot failures. The manufacturer of the turbo if I understand correctly is IHI. That turbo has a large bill of materials. If the individual component (ex. bushing) causing failure is being pulled from a massive lot of say 200,000 units. And they have used 150,000 to date. Then they would inspect the remaining 50,000 units finding the estimated failure rate. Lets say it is 0.3% out of spec parts. That means they MAY have built 450 turbos using a bad component. But if every turbo was built using (ex. bushing) from that lot, then they would have to notify every owner of the 75,000 trucks built using those 150,000 turbos. Just a little context, and I have no evidence to support this as the actual scenario. But as a manufacturer, I can see this as very likely.

2000 miles on my 02/22 limited. Going to keep partying on. No matter which new truck you choose today, you’re gambling with repairs/issues as they all have something weird going on. Obviously, I put my money on Toyota though lol

update! Parts eta pushed to 4/19 (dealer supposedly had the whole assembly 5 weeks ago, just waiting on an o ring or something small to complete the job)

Part shows up 4/19, and apparently the dealer has been sitting on the WRONG SIDE TURBO the entire time. So, now I’m waiting for that, which they say will only be a few days.

The service advisor also indicated that the instructions from Toyota tell them to remove the cab for this repair. Ugh.

I’ve had an 06 Tundra. I currently still have an 06 sequoia, 17 tundra, and 17 Camry. This experience is souring me on Toyota.

My truck was in for 5 weeks for the AC, when I got it back they had no paperwork to provide ...weird huh. It's like they are trying to hide the repairs from lemon law attorneys or something.

Wowww! Definitely seems like experience with this whole issue can depend almost entirely on the dealer you are stuck with. I'm happy I've got options in my area. I fear my experience would have gone like this if I went with the closest dealer.

Also, I can assure you, it IS NOT necessary for them to remove the cab. "Easily" accessible through the wheel well. That is from the tech who did mine. Took only a couple hours once the parts were all in. If it isn't too late maybe consider getting your truck to another dealer. I can't imagine the slew of issues you might have if an incompetent service department were to remove the cab and put it back on!

Not a turbo issue, service advised air shutter actuator stuck in the on position. Software update corrected the issue!!

I got same issue (engine light, brake malfunction) after 100+ miles.
I came to the dealership twice, they kept my car on the second time, they gave me a Chevy Spark for driving.
This is the 3rd week and they don't have an ETA.
    My origin post: https://www.tundras.com/threads/parking-support-brake-malfunction-code.103967/#post-2713844

Is there any chance to claim a LEMON CAR and get a replacement car (a new car)?

I wasted a lot of time for this new car as well as paid more than MSRP.
    It's so crazy!!!

So mine was similar except minus the support wording the dealer had to order a rear passenger wheel speed sensor harness that’s what caused the message

Very well put. I'm in a mass production environment as well and perfection by six sigma standards are simply a goal. However, I did not expect to see this kind of issue in a Toyota. Not on this scale of preventability.

But hopefully Toyota will see their fault and implement corrective actions to prevent a similar occurrence in the future.

Regardless, I personally view Toyota as potentially the most agresive about over all and long term quality driven auto manufacturers in the world.
