This is what has been reported

Common Issues with Toyota's 10-Speed Transmission

    General Performance Concerns
    • Delayed Shifting: Some drivers report experiencing delays when shifting gears, particularly when trying to engage higher gears like 10th.

    • Harsh Shifting: There are complaints about rough or harsh shifts, which can affect driving comfort.

    • Gear Engagement: Users have noted that the transmission may not always engage the higher gears as expected, even at highway speeds.
    Specific User Experiences
    • Sequential Shifting: In some cases, drivers have found that when using manual mode, the transmission may not display the current gear accurately. For example, it may show 8th gear while the vehicle is capable of shifting to 9th or 10th.

    • RPM Changes: Some users have observed that shifting to 10th gear does not result in a noticeable change in RPM, indicating potential issues with gear engagement.
    Reliability and Long-Term Concerns
    • Initial Model Issues: Newer models often face teething problems, as manufacturers may rush to implement new technologies without extensive testing.

    • Repair Challenges: Repair options for multi-speed transmissions can be limited, and costs may be higher due to the complexity of the systems.
    Conclusion
While many Toyota vehicles equipped with the 10-speed transmission perform well, some users have reported issues that could affect driving experience. If you encounter persistent problems, it may be advisable to consult a professional for diagnosis and potential repairs.

Are those, or at least the majority of those issues, not software issues?

lol, Aisin did not borrow GM and Fords design.

the 10 speed in the tundra is a spot on and does awesome keeping it in the power band given the low torque peak, especially while towing

is it 100% perfect with 0 problems ever, no, nothing is , but its not the class action POS GM/Ford collaborated on.

just one example of the bad information in that "information" you came across.

thats not even how that system works, lol, its not displaying what gear your in, its displaying what top gear you select for the top gear lock out

so if you have it set to 7th, that means the top gear it can use is 7th gear, that does not mean your are IN 7th gear.

anyways, the tundra has some issues that needs sorting out for sure, the Aisin 10 is not one of them.

    boost on...

The Aisin 10 speed is also not the 10R/10L trans that was a joint Ford/GM venture

Is this an AI summary? lol. The difference in gear ratio between 9th and 10th is 0.5. If you’re going 80, which is the speed it jumps to 10th, it’s gonna drop from about 1800 rpm to 1600 - that’s because the gear ratios are so close, not because gears aren’t engaging.

The ZF 8 speed is THE tried and true market leader for 8 speeds, the best of the batch being the German built ones. The American built ones for RAM and Jeep have smoothed out and are nearly as good, and far and away better than the other 8 speeds from GM for example. My 2015 JGC has the German version and it’s butter. The Aisin 10 speed has come out of the gate with only a few glitches, but solid so far.

Coming from driving my Grenadier with the ZF 8HP in every scenario imaginable and working the prototype tour for the vehicle; I can confirm, it absolutely is the market leader for 8 speeds

This reads like some AI summarization... AKA a steaming pile of horseshit. And we can all smell it a mile away.

I thought I was safe but it finally happened. Just as I’m waiting for my recall engine to come in. The turbo wastegate decided to go first.

    1.) Build date - 01/07/2022
    2.) In service date - 02/05/2022
3.) Mileage and date of failure - 39,625 and 08/06/2025
4.) Description of problem and resolution -
Check engine light came on when I was waiting at the red light. Scanned code with GTS+ when I got to work and it came up P25B473 Turbocharger/Supercharger Wastegate "A" Actuator Stuck Closed. Cleared DTC and it was good for about a week. Came back on again waiting at a red light last week, cleared the DTC again. Now it comes back almost instantly. Still drivable but definitely lacking boost in limp mode. Nothing I can do but wait for my new engine. Won’t be able to install the new engine till October.
