First off, I want to give out a Big THANK YOU to this Forum and everyone on here who have been great and helpful.

I am not a engineer, nor a mechanic, nor am I on here to discredit Toyota, as I am a long time Toyota owner.

I only found out about the continuing engine failure on these Tundras on March 1, 2025
I do not own a 'smart' phone and never did and stopped watching TV and News about 4 years ago.

I am not a social networking type of individual as I am older and car ownership began in the 60's and 70's and would like my 1969 Grand Prix and my 1970 GTO back.

I am a long time Toyota Owner, love Toyota vehicles and especially TUNDRAS = like many on here, we want a TUNDRA = GREAT Truck

Research as much as you can and then decide on your own, for yourself = You may have a GREAT Tundra = I do not know and cannot tell you either way, yes or no.

Many people are not having major problems and that is a good thing.

When I went to buy a New 2025 Tundra I was basing my decision on my previous RELIABLE Tundras = 2013 , 2016 , 2018 = all GREAT Tundras with zero issues.

    IMHO
#1 - The engine failure reporting began in 2022 and continued into 2023 and 2024 and now some current 2025 models are also experiencing engine failure with one report at 1,582 miles.
#2 - One report that i have found shows a NEW engine replacement, installed by Toyota, blew up after only 500 miles!!!
#3 - The most dangerous aspect is that this can occur, and has for some owners, while driving on the highway at speeds of 50mph and greater = Research NHTSA
#4 - There are many owners having very good success with no engine failure.
#5 - If you decide to keep your Tundra it may be a good idea to purchase a Toyota Care Extended Warranty from Toyota - not from a third party
#6 - I am a long time Toyota Owner, love Toyota vehicles and especially TUNDRAS = like many on here, we want a TUNDRA = GREAT Truck
#7 - I will buy another Tundra if Toyota can resolve this engine failure and restore my confidence.

#8 - You may have a GREAT Tundra = I do not know and cannot tell you either way.

EVERY engine manufacturer has a handful of engine failures soon after delivery.
Even with the '22 & '23 issues included with well over 400K built the failure rate is less
than 4000 trucks. ( Less than 1% ). So relax and enjoy your new truck.

Just a little note - the Toyota recall is for 100,000 Tundras and more as it is a open recall.

Agree. But a very small percentage of those 100K have failed. They’re being changed proactively.

Can you pass this Message to @Tundra family as i have not been on this forum long enough to do so.

Been there quite a few times.

Our hope is in the love of God that sustains us especially when all that we hoped for and trusted in comes crashing down and is blown away by the wind.

Without God i would of succumbed to the Lymes Disease which wrecks havic/PAIN in my body for 40 years and counting. By His mercy i continue onward.

Without God i would of succumbed to cancer at the age of 45. By His mercy He healed me and i continue onward.

God delights in showing Mercy and Mercy Triumps over judgment.

    1.) July 2023
    2.) July 2023
    3.) 16,900
4.) Check engine light. The dealer has the truck and it was initially diagnosed with a wastegate failure. Now needs the entire turbo replaced. It's on backorder so waiting for an update.

Awesome. Would love to have seen them doing this thru the wheel well. ( in 2022 they thought they had to lift the cab )

Well, yesterday I joined the failed turbo club. 2023 Limited HV with 41,000 km, engine light and message popped up. Had a code reader handy and the dreaded P25B6 code logged in the ECU. What a PITA. I am 4 hours away from home and over an hour from the nearest dealership. How far to drive is the question. Dealer says I can keep driving since the engine light is not flashing. Not very comforting though. We will see.

Overall this truck continues to be a huge disappointment and has basically become unreliable. So many time bombs just waiting to go off. Kind of sad.

Just made an account to post my failed turbo as well. Toyota my whole life, very disappointed. For those that think this issue is resolved in the newer models, think again. 2024 1794 Hybrid. Manufacture date 04/24. In-service date 08/01/2024. 13,000 miles. Got a "reduced engine power" see dealer message. 1 week for repairs. Seems to be working now. Toyota repair ticket states: Bank 1 Wastegate sticking open. I think toyota should reach out to us and offer free extended warranty. Sadly for my trip next month I will take my 2005 4runner, because I don't trust my Tundra. Definitely rethinking that Grand Highlander purchase next year.

First wastegate issue I’ve heard of in ages. Early 2022s had a decent number of those fail. Seems they got it pretty sorted now and your report is a bit of an anomaly. If you’re afraid to drive it anywhere, you should probably sell it. If it were me, I would just roll that thing along and not worry about it.

I have always been that guy....the one that has the 1/1,000,000 negative thing happen. I hope you are right and this is a very rare, never to recur problem. But it does make me nervous.

You know Toyota could have squashed this entire concern with all of its buyers by simply extending everyone's warranty for free. Not only would this have boosted buyer's confidence, but it would have shown that Toyota did not believe that there was much to worry about as a warranty extension is essentially free for them if there's nothing to worry about. The fact that they didn't do this concerns me. It makes me think that they also know that this warranty extension would cost them a fortune.

We continue to look for a 2012-2021 Tundra extra cab with 8ft Bed

Very hard to find one with:
    one owner
    regular oil changes
    no accidents
    low miles
    reasonable price

I would generally say it’s just too far behind the current crop. Would be nice if there was a reliable UR series NA V8. Maybe the 5.0 as an option with the 10 speed

agreed, I wouldn't want to go back like that, IMO, this truck is way nicer.

but for the engine, if we are going back, I made a little tweak for you, punch that bitch out, 5.0 is too small

I don’t think Toyota is concerned about going back to a 2021 Toyota Tundra with a V8 when it had its second highest year in sales last year and is on pace to equal or have this years sales come in no worse than #3 in terms of history for the Tundra.

I’m sure they are already knee deep in the refresh of the 3rd generation, not going back or putting a V8 out for just the US market.

I’d rather they focused on QC on all Toyotas/Lexus models going forward.

10 speed transmissions are problematic = Ford , GM , Toyota

6 speed transmissions have proved to be reliable = Toyota , GM , Ford

At present, the BEST transmission is in the RAM 1500 = it is a 8 speed and is so reliable that BMW uses it in their racecars
This does not mean that it is flawless.

Did you ever consider how Toyota decided on the 10 spd when they knew it was a major failure?

Engineering on paper ALWAYS works, until it is road tested.

Of course just a few bad parts can ruin any transmission.
