Purchased Feb 1 2021. Have 2800 miles on it with free service for first two years. Won't hit 10K for the year. When should I get the first service done? I figure at 5K, or at 6 months, so would like be first 6 months for me or at or before Aug 1.

    Thanks for any thoughts.

If you are not hitting 10k miles in a year I would suggest service annually. I’m in the same boat. I drive about 7k miles a year.

I did mine at 2,000 miles on the first oil change. Can’t say whether or not it does anything of great significance but, it made me feel better:)

I did have a very small amount of metal in my filter.

If it's free, bring it in at the earliest date or miles.

Or whatever your service manual says. ;)

I believe it’s at 6 months or 5,000 miles. At least that’s how they do it at my dealership. My ‘19 tundra was that way and my wife’s 2020 4Runner was that way

In regards to the oil, I do 12 months or 10k. Which ever comes first. On the Tundra it was 12 months because I only do about 6k a year on it. I like the dealership because they keep track of everything (fluids, tire wear, brake wear, etc).

I’ll typically skip the tire rotations because I like to do them myself every 10k. The vast majority or dealerships and independent mechanics over tighten the lug nuts. Which tend to fail after many years of service. It’s crazy how many shops could care less about the proper torque specs...just slam them on with the gun and get the next car in!

    Too many, but not enough....
I did my first service myself at 2k, then 5k. I plan on doing oil changes at 5k intervals from now on myself, since the dealer wont put in 5W-30. Everything else I will follow the service manual, or maybe a little before.

What does the dealer want to put in if not 5W-30?

I just got a '21, they put a sticker for 5K. I do all my own oil changes though, so will probably do it in the next couple weeks. Have had it officially a month now and it's a 2300 miles.

The standard now is 0W-20. Due to CAFE mpg standards. The 5W-30 dramatically reduced my cold start engine noise and smoothed everything out. 5W-30 was the standard before all the MPG BS started some years back.

I’m a service advisor at Toyota.

with Toyota care it is a “use it or lose it program” so you should come in every 6 months or 5k for service regardless of mileage. I can’t speak on every dealership but we honor Toyota care services up to 4 months after the expiration date.

    5k- tire rotation and inspection.
10k- oil/filter change, tire rotation, and inspection
15k- tire rotation, change cabin filter, and inspection.
20k- oil/filter change, tire rotation, and inspection.
    25k- tire rotation and inspection.

Yep my 2121 did at 5,000 miles or 6 months they did tires and inspection! But did come back for oil change at 7,000 miles and scheduled oil changes every 5,000 miles! Dealer said didn’t care when you wanted them done! Happy with my free service! Next coming up soon at 11,700 miles! Brought in Nov 2020! Great Truck love how she sounds!

The free maintenance is 2 oil changes and 5 tire rotations. You want it changed before 10K you have to do you yourself or ask the dealer-most will say no to using that as a free change.
