So the dealer was asking 65K. I talked to the sales manager and they came down to 58. I told him that’s still too high, and that at 52,000 I’d sign the papers. They said we are too far apart have a nice day lol

You didn’t buy the truck so there are no facts. Just a story.

Just ordered. $52.8, $57.1 OTD. $1700 off MSRP. No accessories. I couldn't get anybody to come off MSRP out here in the East but this one dealer.

Weird time to buy a truck right now. No one in the state has inventory on anything here in Colorado. I pulled trigger yesterday to capitalize on the 2500 rebate that I have never seen out here on the truck. I paid just under 55k for a fully loaded 1794 with the TRD package in the color I wanted. The truck didn’t exist anywhere in a 1000 mile radius from me :(

Bought mine on July 5th, Sticker was $55224 got it for $52,988. Ended up and traded in my 2018 Tundra, took most of my mods off. If I had of had more time I would have taken all of them off. At least my payment just went up $30 a month.

did they give you a hard time about the MODs. I’m trading in a Lexus with an exhaust and some things like lip spoiler, roof spoiler, intake. Was wondering if they try lowering their trade in value from this

I got $1,000 of sticker for a double cab Pro. Virtually none anywhere and only 4 expected in the area thru end of Sept. NC dealership. Dealer said the factory is up and running again.

OTD was 55.5K with flares, bed liner, phone charger, bed step, predator step, touch keypad, tailgate lock, and some uSB thing. Not much negotiating for a low production model.

It’s a 5 button pad on the driver door to enter a code to unlocked the truck. I’m a runner so it’s great to leave the keys in the truck and lock it up. Then return and enter your code on the keypad and bam, you’re in. It may be an SET option only.

When i bought my 2013 Tacoma Baja he whined about what i paid through the whole process. He thought since i got such a great deal the i should buy all his crap. He probably told me 5 times that they lost money on it. Finance dudes are the biggest whiners.

At the risk of being labeled a moron here’s my price paid:

    $58,855... MSRP + $2500.

    things you need to know:

1.) I live in SoCal and TRD Pros are in high demand
2.) most dealers charge $10k over in SoCal
3.) I had to drive 100 miles away to get this price
4.) this is the only TRD Pro I could find south of San Jose - COVID has totally screwed up supply
5.) I’m totally happy I got one and don’t give a rats ass that other guys got a better deal... it’s taken me 3 months to get this truck.

I had a dealer in Dallas tell me that Tundra TRD Pros must be special ordered and require deposit. He also said any TRD Pros available on lots were ordered by a customer but financing fail thru etc. I never trust a word sales people say so I take it with grain of salt.

Do you have push button start? if so, couldn't someone just open the door while the keys are in there?

That is false. You can request a TRD Pro and the dealer will go out and find one from another dealer.

I talk to him at least twice a week, but the Sales Manager from a local Toyota dealership about this. Our daughters play together in a travel soccer team. Dealers get a certain allotment of TRD Pro's each year based off of sales numbers determined by corporate. If it is a high volume dealer, they might get 10. If it is a low volume Toyota dealer they might only get 1 or 2 beginning of model year.

I know this might sound contradictory to what other people say, but there is no way to "order" a Toyota vehicle to your build specifications from the factory. Just from my understanding. Toyota builds a certain number of configurations and ships them out. When you "order" a new Tundra all dealers are doing is going out and trading inventory with a dealer that has your truck in stock.

This is spot on. I bought my TRD Pro through a friend of a friend. My friend works in internet sales at a smaller dealer - they didn't have one and weren't going to get one. I wanted to buy my truck through her. She said it ain't gonna happen and started making a few call for me. She found my truck with a contact at a dealer out of our area.

She also said "Toyota builds what they are going to build and don't really let dealers order cars - something about it messing with the hijunka of the production line." The vehicles tend to allocated to the region and then the dealers shift inventory from there.

    +1 good info

Always wondered about that when "ordering" a mass produced item. Assembly plants follow production schedules to maximize efficiency. They figured out all the combination of configurations and scheduled it ahead of time.

Truly built to order are low volume and exclusive like a McLaren and even then it's the top models, not the "lower end" models.

My dad worked for Honda if America in Marysville, OH for 16 years building Accords. I also spent 3 summers working there in college as an intern while in college. There was absolute no custom ordering of any kind. Of course, back in the 90's and 2000's you would get an Accord in DX, LX, or EX trim levels and not all these custom add on packages like Ford does per say.

Honda had it down and were so sophisticated and able to know exactly which trim levels they sell and color combination and build that.

Again, I have seen on here where people order and put a down deposit on a Tundra and they are able to see where the truck is. According to the guy ai talk to is very knowledgeable, down to earth, and he says it is 100000% impossible with Toyota. He would bet his house on it, haha. Those dealers are just going out and finding a pro that a dealer will actually give up.

If a dealer has to go and get or trade with another dealer it is usually more expensive. Some dealers will not even do a dealer trade and if they do, they want a little out of it.

Out of complete boredom, I just called another dealer and asked if I could go ahead and order a Pro. They laughed at me. If you find one let us know and we will buy it from you is the response I got........

If someone has truely ordered a Tundra and had it built I would be interested in seeing how?

I preordered my 2020 back in July of 2019 I was able to pick any options I wanted on it and it arrived at the dealer with those options already on it. I even had a shipping date and arrival date of it arriving on the lot. Both were off by a couple weeks but still really close. I paid msrp + all options I added. I added everything I could but the side rails cause I didn’t care for the factory options.
The way I was able to get mine was.. I put $1000 deposit down and they search the system to see who was allocated a army green pro The dealer I had was alocatred a green sequoia so they may have traded bait and got mine instead. Not sure. Just thought I would share my experience

Here in the East there are some on lots. Probably 7 or so within a 200 mile radius of Jersey. I ended up at a high volume dealer 10 minutes away who already had one ordered. Due to be built 8/7. $500 over MSRP. There is one on a lot about 20 minutes from me that is 7k more than what i paid. Same options. They literally added almost 7k to MSRP.

So someone mentioned that Dealers pay a tax on inventory they carry over going into the New Year...

I started looking at 2020 Tundra TRD Pro models last week and am worried about the COVID supply shortage affecting my ability to find a decent deal on a 2020 TRD Pro (at least MSRP Price for OTD after TTL) :-/ Am I really going to have to pay MSRP during this supposed COVID economic downturn... wasn't expecting this at all!! I am definitely not paying a market value mark-up scam here in VA! I would think its easier to get a deal on year end model like a 2020, but based on Badger's comment above.... Due to COVID, would it pay off to wait for the 2021 models to arrive and try to get a deal before end of the year based on a dealer's incentive to avoid Taxes on their inventory beginning on Jan. 1, 2021?
I'm trying to figure out my best negotiating angle during these crazy times and would appreciate any advice :)

Covid has effected different market segments in weird ways....RV, back yard grills, swimming pools, ....high demand. Other areas are in short supply like Toyotas. The big sell off was back in April and early May but that's over.

No kidding. Definitely thought I could buy a new Tundra from a position of leverage this fall and now, its looking like quite the contrary. So now I guess I either pay up or wait it out for chances of a better deal later this year (if inventory comes back) or til 2021 when we see more economic aftermath from Covid?

Do you need a truck now? If you are able to wait until later this year or sometime next year, inventory will come back. It may take a while to get back to pre-Covid levels, but eventually it will start coming back, especially with the factory back up and running. This is temporary, not permanent.
