Why? The Supra looks better. It's the same thing as a Z4 essentially, so why not get the one that I like the look of?

The wife was on board, but ultimately wanted to stay the truck guy that I am. I think being that low to the ground would drive me nuts.

Paying euro price, with euro spec, with euro reliability. Only thing that’s Toyota is the fake vents

Channel in Canada that reviews cars. I like them because they are just a couple buddies that have fun with the cars. One is a car guy, the other is just somebody that likes fun stuff. It gives their channel two different perspectives on the cars.

Styling is Toyota, and they've repeatedly said that they've gone over the engine. They did a full teardown to make sure that it met their standards. I get where you are coming from on it, because BMW isn't exactly known for reliability. HOWEVER, you won't get funny looks using your turn signals in the Supra, whereas in a BMW people will wonder if you stole it when they see your blinker.

Maybe. There was talk of the two collaborating on a hybrid engine at one point, but that ended in a bad break up and Ford keeping/stealing the engine design. No clue if any of that is true, but if they were working together... :monocle:

Don't know if I can find the story again but the Supra placed last in a comparison test of a bunch of sporty cars (can't remember the exact classification) a while back.

I think it was either Car and Driver or Road and Track but they did say there was something wrong with the car they had. Toyota actually sent a couple folks out to work on the car during the test but I don't think they got it running quite right.

Either way, by the time I can buy something like this, it'll be an old classic for the ones that stuck it out. Right now I miss having a fun car so much that anything sporty gets my imagination going.

If I was going to buy myself a fun car, an 86 would be tempting. Despite the Subaru engine, it's small, light and RWD with a manual.

If they have the same depreciation as a BMW, you could pick up one in 5 years.

Nothing wrong with Subarus as long as you don't overbuild them. When I bought my WRX in '17 the only brands that outrank subaru for reliability were Lexus and Toyota. If the flat brim vape-tards didn't run them like idiots, there'd be no stigma about Subaru engines.

I'd nab another WRX before I did an 86/BRZ for the AWD and extra power, and speed. Staying under $35K (US) its the best all rounder poor man's race car IMO. You can get int the fun V8 domestic muscle at that price, but they won't live as long. There are some hot hatches, but none of them are AWD at that price.

    Fuuuuu.... I miss my WRX.

    Agree 100%...
i had a 2015 WRX (limited) that was hail totaled when it was mint and had 30,000 miles on it. Bren tuned, Cobb intake, perrin shift stop, and some other small tweaks and it was a damn enjoyable drive thats plenty quick and won't break the bank (relatively speaking) or the block.

If I did buy a fun car, it would be a third vehicle so I think I'd prefer RWD over AWD. Also, I just like really small, nimble vehicles. It's more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slow, as they say.

WRX is a fast, my friend race USTCC with NASA. when they just started. it's all hondas and acura. after a year a WRX show up to the race, and about mid season when the WRX dial in on their 3 diff and cooling, no one could beat it.

Totally understand, and RWD is special to me IF there is a lot of power behind it. The WRX is small and ridiculously nimble. I would say, go to a Subie dealership and drive a BRZ and a WRX to see which you prefer.

I’m waiting for Subaru throwing a turbo on their BRZ, or wait for the 400z

I was hoping for the Turbo BRZ as well, but I don't think they'll do it. They don't want to produce a direct challenger to the WRX, especially when the BRZ is a collaboration vehicle that another manufacturer would be able to compete with their crown jewel.

I have to see, never ride a BRZ on track, so I don’t know how much grip they produce, but I know those EVO and STI have crazy grip, you could just throw the car into a corner and they will sort it out for you.

I can't speak for the BRZ, but that's no lie about the WRX. Mine wasn't the STI, but holy hell did that car corner.:burnrubber:

Hmmm.... All this Supra talk has me looking at ads for 2017 WRXs.

My brother is law has decided 2017 WRX is the perfect car for him.

He used to have a RHD 1994 STi that he loved when he was younger but he got tired of having to pay for 94 octane (or adding octane booster in places where he couldn't find anything over 91) and dealing with poor fuel economy, replacing coil packs pretty regularly and the hassles that come with RHD.

He bought himself a 2015 Impreza (base) to use as a daily with the intent of keeping his STi as a second fun car but he found the base Impreza too boring and he just ended up driving his STi all the time anyway. So he sold them both and bought a 2017 WRX and it's been the perfect balance between the two.
