Remember... This is the mid grade Supra

There's still a possible Supra GRMN which we don't know anything about yet, and I definitely hope the S55 or similar makes it into that engine bay

Do I wish it had a Toyota Motor instead yes..... but so far with all the reading about the bmw motor doesn’t sound bad at all. I really like how the car looks, I’m pretty sure it will grow on everyone especially after doing mods etc....

I'm not sure about the styling, its not a 100% hit with me, its one of those cars I need to see in person first, as the pics are kind of meh/weird, especially that aardvark front end.

Main thing that pisses me off is this car is actually a BMW. Toyota whores out its most respected nameplate to BMW to build/design/test/engineer the car to their standards(or lack of standards IMO). BMW makes shit cars, reliability after the warranty runs out is horrendous. Maybe the new "Toyota" Supra won't be as bad, as the six cylinder BMW's tend to be a good bit more reliable and cheaper to own long term than the V8 and V12 BMW's.

Main thing is if I wanted a BMW, I'll just go buy an M2 or 240M. If I'm buying a Toyota Supra, I want it to be a 100% engineered and built in Japan product by Toyota engineers.

It angers me because Toyota has the RWD chassis tech, Lexus IS, GS, LS, RC, LC. Toyota Crown and Century are RWD and sold in Japan only. Surely they could have figured out a 2 seat RWD chassis from all the parts shared in those cars. They could have used the twin turbo V6 in the new Lexus LS. I know some would say V6 is hereasy because Supra was always inline six, but look at the sucess Nissan has had with the V6 in the R35 Skyline GTR. I'd much rather have a twin turbo Toyota V6 than a BMW inline six under the hood.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
I'll save everyone the read... new Supra is better in every measurable metric but...

"There are two obvious ways the fourth-gen car is better in our eyes, though: It had that massive optional wing and an optional targa roof. The new Supra doesn't have either of those things. So we guess it's a tie, then."

I'd add no Manual option which is really the deal breaker for me.

While the ZF8 is as good as it gets with a auto, they could've just sourced the dual clutch from BMW's parts bin instead

It’s a BMW with Toyota badges on it, that’s the deal breaker for me.

I think it looks pretty good! If I lived in a part of the country where snow wasn't a thing, the Supra would be a consideration (along with a couple others from different manufacturers).

They literally could've taken a RC350 and put turbos on it, maybe with new styling and a Toyota badge. That to me leads to a suspicion that something with that setup isn't good enough to be called "Supra".

From the article and a quick google search it seems that the new Supra is currently built by Magna Steyr in Graz, Austria not by BMW themselves (new production Z4 is apparently build there as well). This actually isn't uncommon for BMW or other German manufacturers for smaller production runs or niche models (or to test the waters if you will to see if they should invest millions to bring production of a new model in house). All of those ridiculously overpriced G-Wagons are built by Magna Steyr (since 1979) and BMW has used them in the past for the original X3 and even to supplement production of the 5-series due to production limitations in their Dingolfing plant. Looks like the Jaguar I and E-Pace is also produced by Magna Steyr.

Personally i've owned BMW's almost exclusively until March of this year when I bought a 2018 Tundra (I did have an old 2nd gen Prius when I had my M5 and a Subaru Forester when I had a M3). I've had pretty much most of their offerings from a 2000 5-series (in both inline 6/auto & v8/manual configs, X3, multiple X5's over the years both new and used (all diesel actually ... haven't had a gas one), various M models (both actual M's and the M-sports) such as a 2004 M3 & 2007 M5 both with the flappy paddle gear box (gotta love V-10's!) and a bunch of various 3-series (RWD & AWD) between the wife and I. Last car was a 2016 M235xi which was a fabulous car (wife still has her 2014 X5 diesel ... trying to convert her to Lexus but no luck yet!). Almost anything that went wrong with them was either a relatively easy to fix issue with a sensor. Did have my AC go out twice in my 2014 535 while on vacation but hey that can happen to any car. In the end the dealership fixed it when I got home and it was completely covered under warranty. Only one that left ever left me stranded (other than the M3 but there was 2 feet of snow so not the cars fault ... did get pushed out by a very helpful Porsche Cayenne Turbo owner though) was my 2000 540i ... alternator belt broke and I had to get a tow. The M5 did leave the wife stranded once but it was just a relay that died for some reason that controlled the over complicated SMG gearbox (i'm guessing those pesky F1 racing guys that this transmission and engine were designed for replace these every few laps just in case!). So overall in 18-ish years I have a decent appreciation and love for BMW .... they just don't make a truck :)

Have my 10k service on the Tundra next week and I think i'm going to miss the service experience from BMW dealers. They have snacks and give you loaner cars newer and more expensive than the car you brought in for service. We'll see ... I might be surprised! And actually this happened once ... brought in an older 3-series for service, dealer gave me a current model year X3 as a loaner and I left later that night in a new car ... yes the loaner they gave me. Now that's how you sell cars ... without trying.

Out of warranty, BMWs are a nightmare. If you prefer to lease, the driving experience is excellent.

LMAO!! I seriously fucked up even with paddle shifters! They were NOT like any other paddle shifter I’ve used LMAO.
I don’t think many folks have driven a car that goes 0-60 in 3.6 seconds....it’s hard to describe how quickly you need to think.
