2020 LandCruiser comes with transmission cooler, why not Tundra?

    Its all good man!

I hate it when unsuspecting folks get screwed. But, I don't think this applies here. It seems that to make a claim, you will have to show harm. Has that been the case? Has your truck been harmed? Is it damaged and can you show financial or physical injury?

My '18 had the tranny radiator. My '20 does not. I knew it when I bought the newer truck. My Dad taught me +50 years ago... BUYER BEWARE! Know how deep is the water before you dive.

I wish the OP good luck in his legal odyssey and admire his passion. I hope you have quick and satisfactory resolution. The resources of the largest auto manufacturing company in the world seem daunting to this individual owner. It seems you may be obligated to interact with many attorneys, so I would stock up on hand sanitizer and have ready access to hot showers. Keep us posted.

Hopefully, the OP will cool off a bit during his time out, but I will be looking forward to when he reports his progress.

The LC vs Tundra comparison is less incriminating IMO than the 2007-2018 Tundra vs 2019+ Tundra comparison. Still seems like a cost cutting measure to me. And we have at least one (anonymous) Toyota engineer who said as much.

Honestly, I feel like #1 and #2 are big differences in general between the Tundra and *most* other vehicles. Prior to the Tundra I'd not owned a truck with anything higher than 3.73, I believe it was; and remember thinking "I mean yeah, Tundras are nice, and all, but does shift mapping and 4.30 gears make THAT big a difference?"

Why yes, yes they do. Wife doesn't drive my truck that much; but she drove it a week or so after I bought it; came to me and said "Are you SURE the Tundra only has like 20 HP more than your old F150? Because it's TONS more powerful."

I've been told by a friend that he 'likes' his Silverado more (of course lol) but that my truck is 'more refined and more fun to drive.'

And, I'd rather drive a f150 than a Tundra with V6 TT. The 4th Gen Tundra Sucks on Arrival!

hahah exactly. Precisely what I stated too. And again, I was not giving legal advice nor should it be construed as such.

Hehehe. If you talked to a lawyer you would find out just how frivilous your claim is. An end user like yourself can t tell a company how to manufacture a product.

Not speaking for the OP and I’m not affected since I have a 2014...

The real case is that the Maroney Sticker, which is supposed to be clear to the consumer about what they are buying and at what price, states that there is an aux cooler. It’s not an argument about whether Toyota knows how to manufacture cars. It’s a case of false advertisement. When presented that way, it’s got some merit. The real issue is trying to prove that the consumer was harmed in some way. I don’t think there is empirical evidence that premature failures occur as a result.

I don’t believe it says AUX cooler does it? It just says transmission cooler. Which the truck does still have.

Edit: I just looked at a few Monroney stickers for 2019-2021 tundras and didn’t see any mention of a cooler at all.

Apparently it is listed as a transmission cooler in the tow package description, then removed in 2021. Harder to make op’s case if it states transmission cooler. But if the wording is really removed on 2021 models, you could probably still make a case. However, I’ve said multiple times that the issue is proving that the consumer has been harmed. That’s where the case falls apart.

If it just says cooler and not aux cooler, then there wasn’t false advertisement. I think they removed it from the 21 sticker hoping people would quit talking about it.

That’s what my 2020 has also, but from 2007 to 2018 it was called a transmission warmer. I can speak from first hand experience the lack of the actual cooler on 2019 and 2020 tundras will result in transmission failure. My 2020 is in the dealership now getting a new transmission installed because the original with 20,000 miles on it is shot. Lost 5th and 6th gear and fluid was at correct level but when they pulled the drain plug it came out completely burnt and solid black. Toyota agreed it was missed labeled on the window sticker and is replacing the transmission but I am still working with them to install factory cooler. Basically get what I paid for based on there advertising and window sticker.

I have owned two Tacoma’s and this is my third tundra. Have been a long time viewer but never a member because I never ever had any problems or anything to discuss because all other previous Toyota’s just plain worked and were diehard reliable

Where exactly in the summary of this work order does it definitively claim that the lack of an auxiliary cooler caused your trans to fail? It claims that you complained about it, it said that yes it doesn't have one now, but it never says that was the reason for the failure, does it?

Please read my original post 172. I said it was the contributing factor for the failure and Toyota will not say that other wise we would all have trans coolers installed under some kind of recall or technical service bulletin. right before it went out temperature reading was 267 and went all the way up to 270 And no idiot lights Or warnings came on

My previous tundra had transmission cooler and warmer I also towed exact same load all the time and never seen temperatures above 210 for short periods of time. That one had a little over 180,000 miles on it when I got rid of and not one single problem with the transmission at all with one flush/drain and refill.

Rock solid proof! Sometimes parts go bad leading to failure. Enjoy the no worries that come with the extended warranty, I got a “free” one also, not related to trans cooler debacle though.
