Not bad odds at all of failure. That's five ten thousandths of 1%.

Article I read #1 vehicle or highest percentage making it to 300k miles. It was Landcruiser. Cooler must contribute to that success.

I love my truck. I don’t regret my purchase, and I don’t regret installing a cooler to bring it to 2018 specs. :notsure:

I lean toward agreeing with the Toyota engineer who said it was a poor decision. I take the failed trucks Toyota has seen due to high trans temps as actual data points. I’m not emotional about it, and I’m not going to try to sue Toyota, but I do think we’ll see more issues down the road (likely after the 2019-2021 trucks’ warranties expire). For most, I'm sure it's fine. Toyota will fix the few that fail under warranty and still come out way ahead.

A Toyota engineer who worked directly on the Tundra speaking candidly under the condition of anonymity carries more weight for me than one speaking in a public relations capacity on behalf of their employer. Others disagree. That's fine.

In @blanchard7684's hypothetical legal situation, is there a slight chance that the prosecution could show that the puck is so ineffective based on its observed performance under the stress of higher (but within spec) loads that to call it a "cooler" in the same sense they called the previous system a cooler is intentionally misleading or negligent? I would think that case would have the best chance.

At any rate, the highly emotional posts on both sides of the issue are entertaining.

I don’t tow much (yet) but I do hang out in the deserts a lot and didn’t want to chance it. I’ll have this truck until I die so the setrab kit was worth it to me.

Worth noting what Ford is also doing. Only 2 coolers in their entire line up. Bet you can't guess both models.
