Especially with the C7 and current Camaro it's widely known that GM sports cars perform way above price level... The Z06 laps like a $300k supercar at 1/3 the cost and the base models aren't far behind. The ~$35k 4 cylinder Camaro lapped VIR in the same time as a 2007 911 turbo and the ZL1 was slightly ahead of a current (until recently) 911 Turbo S at less than half the MSRP.

At this point my only concerns with GM sports cars are:
    1. Being able to see out the damn thing
    2. Frustration with not being able to enjoy the car at non-felony speeds

It won't be my daily, so Tundra levels of reliability aren't an absolute need but I wouldn't want a Guilia QV either.

Eye candy for sure, but not something I would like to drive.
It sits to low, and the interior is claustrophobic.

I'm not a lover of American muscle, as I prefer Euro and Japanese sports/super cars but this Corvette actually catches my eye. Mid engine is superior to front. I'll be really interested to see how it's cornering and handling compare to that of higher priced Porsche, AMG, Ferrari and Lambo. It would be kind of fun to pit it on a twisty course against the new Supra as well.

I think someone earlier in the thread mentioned that it doesn't come with a manual transmission though? If that's the case, I'd never buy one. Can't have a sports car with an auto transmission.

8 spd dual clutch. All the brands you mention are heavily DCT or full on slushbox these days. On a track I'll bet money right now that an unmodified new supra will not even come close to a base c8

Gotcha, I hadn't read about the dual clutch. My first impression was that is was a regular automatic transmission. I think you may be right about the C8 beating the Supra. With the mid engine design, it should be a good improvement over the C7.

I like how the American muscle cars are starting to improve their handling characteristics instead of being dependent on loud and fast in a straight line.

The chief designer of Supra said he was hoping the Supra could run the ring in a 7:40. C8 Corvette on cold street tires is running a 7:04. That is freaking fast. I imagine he would get sub 7 second fairly easy They are not comparable cars. Not even in the same realm of existence.

Also a corvettes have pulled over a G on the skid pad for years and years. They handle awesome, go like stink around corners or straight lines, and do it on the relative cheap. Which explains the crap interiors. Actually that’s not fair the c7 has a decent interior.

But seriously what amg production car are you going to put on the track to run against a corvette? I can’t think of anything even close. Those AMG GT coupes are their sportiest thing. Lets be honest that is amazing for what it is, but they are miles apart.

I like it a lot. I drive a Miata Club edition and like it a lot, but the roomier Corvette would be more comfortable and the horsepower would be awesome, maybe too awesome. I have never driven a mid-engine car and I'd love to take one for a test drive. I doubt I'll ever be able to pry my wallet open far enough to buy one.

I mean let’s be honest the last attempt at a us made mid engine car for mass production was a raving success. I have owned like literally 25 Pontiac Fiero’s in my life. Apart from the shitty build quality that was a cool car

Buy used if you do. Nothing depreciates like a Corvette/sports car.

Oh definitely, they're so common retirement purchases you basically have your pick of 2-3 year old used vettes with like 5k miles. Won't even have to find a manual since they're 100% DCT

This is very true I picked up my 16 at the end of 17 with 9k miles on it for 47k

MSRP was 75k+ ( I know no one pays MSRP but that is the only number I have )

And I bought it from Carmax so private party could have even been less!

Think I’m going to have to get me one also! That thing is nasty looking. May be better to wait if I can... I still remember how I felt about the 1984 ... that was not Chevys best moment, but most of the sports cars of that era were junky... ask me how I know!!
