Yup. I think buying anything used right now is going to be a tough pill to swallow. Spending the same amount, or more, than I paid for my very well spec’ed taco brand new is tough. But I get it, that’s just the way things are right now. And going mid size to full size.

Be assured: two years in Boston and you start seeing first rust flakes under your parking place. Thick layer of white stuff on the roads in winter is not snow, it's salt. Cycling around freezing point every freaking winter day does not help with rust either.

105k highway miles over 5 years is far better for transmission than 22k mostly city miles. Transmission wears out when it shifts. Less shifts, less wear.

Just playing devils advocate here, what if out of those 105k highway miles, 3/4 of them are done while towing a 5600lbs trailer without a transmission cooler?

You're not wrong though about highway vs city with all other factors being equal.

When I got my 2012 new off the lot, I had looked at almost EVERY Toyota dealer's inventory from NorCal, Oregon, WA and Northern Idaho. There were 2 I didn't check, as they were in small towns, and I didn't expect them to have a 2012 CrewMax SR5 TRD OffRoad in Super White. One night I got to thinking about checking AutoTrader for one that my local dealer could maybe wrangle a dealer-to-dealer trade for, and discovered that one of the 2 dealers I didn't check had not 1, but 4 Tundras with the options I wanted, and one in Super White.

Just keep your eyes open, I found mine from a search on CarGurus about 2 months after I test drove a 19 at my local dealership that sold before I decided I wanted it. I narrowly missed out on a 21 in Lunar Rock with 13k miles for 56K at Vancouver Toyota. It went on the lot on a Tuesday afternoon without pictures, and sold Wednesday morning before the sales person I had talked to came in to work.

When you know everyone hates you and only deals with you when they absolutely have to, your motivation for doing anything proactive and actually good for your customer is zero.

They know X% of buyers have already resigned themselves to an awful experience and will stick around to finish the deal even after discovering issues that weren't disclosed. Just to get it over with! They will let you try to negotiate on these undisclosed issues, knowing that they have a variety of numbers to play with to erase whatever advantage you think you argued for yourself.

The absolute lowest of the low.
