Toyota needed to make the Pro more unique from the base models. Like the difference between the F150 and raptor. Just changing a few bolt on parts saves money but doesn’t make it stand out.

While I know we all love our trucks for their reliability and relative simplicity, I truly wonder how long Toyota can keep up with their mediocre approach to "updates."

Mike I agree Sun roof on a off road truck is dumb. Also makes for a top heavy feel. Rear locker upgrade makes more sense. Maybe 4th generation.

I bought a Tundra because of the simplicity of it. Not a while lot of bells and whistles. Less stuff to break. The body style still competes with the others and in most vases still looks better. These slight changes don't bother me as much. At least our trucks are still relevant.
I hate the way F*** and the other do a redesign every 2 years. Makes you feel like you gotta keep up. I'm happy dropping 50k every 5-10 years vs. 50k every 2-5 to keep up with the new styles.

While I get what you’re saying, the full size truck segment is one of the most competitive segments in the industry. The big 3 have to keep their products fresh. We all love our Toyotas, but they’re really not much of a threat to sales overall in the eyes of the domestics. Most people who will buy a Tundra will buy it regardless of how competitive or not it is. Ford couldn’t get away with keeping the F150 unchanged as long as Toyota. Most truck buyers are brand loyal. And of those that aren’t, most are foreign/domestic loyal. It’s likely a pretty small part amount of people who aren’t loyal to either and will cross shop a Tundra with an F150 or Silverado, etc. If Toyota sold Tundras at the level the domestics do they would be keeping the product a lot fresher. Look at the Camry, it’s a best seller for both Toyota and it’s segment and it’s getting refreshed or redesigned pretty frequently.

Agreed. There isn't a truck out there that looks as good as the Tundra, IMHO, especially the TRD Pro "look."

Just a easy way to cut expenses....

Slap a "TRD" sticker on an inferior product and charge more for it. This is certainly a step down from the TRD PRO shocks. Toyota puts over 3 million miles into R&D for their PRO products to refine it to perfection... not 5 months with a suit and tie salesman from FOX. " "Oh these are tailored for Toyota" BULLSHIT. I DON'T think that we'll see these cookie cutter shocks on any of their Baja trucks... Nothing against Fox, just not a true PRO anymore. Maybe it's just me but this is Bullshit. oops, I said that already...

I'm so happy I put the Real PRO suspension on my truck before this happened.

I don't know if I would go as far as you, but I was wondering the same thing. From my days with European cars I know Bilstein make an excellent product, and I struggle to believe these will be a superior setup. I could be dead wrong and these might be a good quality option.

"Spotting the 2019 Tundra TRD Pro will be fairly easy thanks to its new black-accented LED headlights and LED fog lights, which flank a reshaped grille that includes the same retro TOYOTA lettering as before. Toyota also added a hood scoop, which looks a bit strange given that the Tundra’s hood already includes an air intake just above the grille. Special interior bits include numerous TRD Pro logos, red stitching, special floor mats, and a different shift knob. Only three colors will be offered: Super White, Midnight Black Metallic, and a Voodoo Blue hue that’s exclusive to the three TRD Pro models."

Fox does make a decent product, and I'm sure they have paid a nice penny to be part of Toyota's legacy. I have had Fox shocks and forks on my bikes, but I always had to have them "upgraded" and they had half the lifespan you would expect when paying for a "premium" product. What I'm saying is though Fox is a great initial product, it will most likely not hold up to Toyota's longevity, and probably will be first on the replacement list.

Yeah have to say, the main draw to the Bilsteins was all the R&D that went into it, and they really do show it. This feels alot like our contract was done with Bilstein so lets just slap on a Fox product. They might prove to be a great shock but a lot of 1st gen raptors complained at around 30k on their Fox shocks. I have not heard similar complaints with the pro Bilsteins. I do hope it continues to be a great product though.

Hopefully it will go on sale soon. Not sure if the longevity but they seem rather durable and have a smooth ride. If there’s a significant discount I’ll buy them in a heartbeat.

Best mod I have done...my Platinum really rides great now...went to the XPEL shop which is 20 minutes away...drove my truck for 1 1/2 hours! Best truck I've ever owned (especially after the TRD Pro shocks upgrade AND '18 LED headlights/fogs)!

I would have to say that they still put decent R+D into the Fox shocks, look at the extra travel they’re getting out of them, and seeing how the 5100s aren’t holding up very good I definitely wouldn’t say the Bilsteins are better. Hopefully the Fox’s are rebuildable. Sounds like they put different leaf springs also which would make me happy. Only thing missing for me is a e-locker...
