Ohhh no Sir. I respectfully disagree; baseball is far more skill than chance, although there's no doubt the latter plays a roll. Part of what makes it so great :)

I always had one shoe laced left over right and the other right over left. Then after the Army everything was left over right.

Too funny. I did the same when playing. Also ran the same undershirt (never washed after a win), never picked up the ball when taking the mound with my glove, never stepped on the line to or from the mound... good stuff.

Its repetitive, muscle memory. No different than a golfer getting setup for his shot. Repetition and consistency. Yes luck is involved, but not as much as you'd think. I was an ambidextrous pitcher, and for me it was a chess match with the batter. What's he think I am going to do, my pitch, and then knowing every situational play so you're prepared for the outcome. Baseball is a head game. And why it was my favorite. I was good at it and went at my pace. The new rules about time between pitches would have killed me. Sometimes fast, others slow. Forced the batter's to do what they didn't want too.
In football I never washed my undershirt. Used to stand up in my locker by itself by October.
    I concur.

Us old farts can remember Fernando Valenzuela. Every pitch during his wind up he'd look to the sky....Very religious...did I mention he was a Dodger? Heh...heh.

Same here. Also never went to rubber with ball in hand, always started from the glove. Exception was throwing left handed with batter on first. Always had ball in hand incase I wanted to attempt a pick off. And being ambidextrous, pickoff to second was always gloved hand. They never saw it coming.

I played locally at HS and then walla walla community college. It was a blast! More endurance traing and lifting than in high school, but the memories were even better

Nice. I made it up there (from California) a few times with some scout and traveling teams. Would have been somewheres around 90-95ish. That about when you played? Wonder if we ever crossed paths, but I do think I'd remember an ambi pitcher, especially one that took his time :D

Oh I for one believe it. Saw some crazy stuff on the field.

Ah gotcha. I was out by then. Stupid shoulder...

What's your opinion of the "Venditte Rule"? Seen it come up a couple times this spring. IMHO needs a serious edit before it becomes a real issue during the season. Big advantage to the hitter, I think.

Big Red Sox fan, had the PA announcer for Fenway at my wedding reception to announce the wedding party. My reception pictures have me wearing the 04 World Series ring. Those pics are on a cd-rom, and my current computer doesn’t have a drive to upload. Couldn’t tell you where the album is.

Not expecting much from them this year, the hangover is real and hard to beat the most wins in franchise history.

I don't like it. Batters have all the advantage. IMO, the batter should choose sides and step in the box. Then the pitcher can decide. Every switch hitter has a one up on normal pitchers. Ambidextrous pitchers are rare and should then get the advantage over a switch hitter. I had a similar incident. I just put my Mitt under my arm, not illegal as mitt is not on the ground, and stood on the mound with both hands on the ball. Waited for batter to step in and delivered. Just lucky no one was on base and was able to wind up as opposed to stretch.

Agree. The examples this spring have been egregious. Batter actually dug in on one side, Venditte declared, then batter switched sides. Clearly abusing the intent of the rule. Dirty play IMHO.
