I wouldn’t want to go over 65 in S4. I don’t like 3k rpms for sustained amounts of time. Once I felt comfortable with the load, I increased my speed from 65 to 70+ and shifted to S5. So my rpms were in a good place, just over 2k.

I did ask and they said it's fine as long as the light doesn't come on, I don't have a OBD2 reader yet to measure the temps so I wasn't able to tell them what I was seeing. I'll call again after I have had a chance to run the reader and have actual numbers. Pretty quickly into the conversation I realized I was unprepared for the discussion so I dropped it.

I have a Kenwood DMX906S - your HU needs to have an OBD2 interface to the Maestro iDatalink unit. Basically there is a connector that you plug into your OBD2 port on the truck and run the wire to the Maestro module, which then sends that along with the other infotainment to the HU.

Just drive it and enjoy it, if Tundra trans failure was remotely common especially low mileage it would be worth an eyebrow raise. Tundra even with coolers run these temps and have for years.

If no one had said anything would anyone concerned have even noticed? Is the temp gauge in the middle on the dash yes, is it running close to 300, no. If an issue does turn up(major) will Toyota stand behind the product yes.

Also those with scanners which temp sensor is it reading, cuz there’s more than 1.

19-20 trucks are running temps around 200F not towing and older trucks are around 175F. The 19-20 trucks towing heavy are seeing temps higher than 230F with most reaching 250-280F. I personally have reach 245F towing a TT weighting 5.5K. The older trucks never get any higher than 205F. Adding trans cooler is only necessary if you tow to prolong ATF service life. When the atf starts to break down from the higher temperature, transmission reliability is compromised.

the trans isn’t even considered warm until 175 degrees. WS fluid is a high temp fluid I’m already seeing 19 tundras with 75k or more on them(no problem just in for normal service)

I'd like to see proof of two trucks that are 2019 with over 75000 miles. These trucks are barely two years old

we get some higher mileage one quick here, we have several hot shot, oil field drivers that’s all they do, they put about 150-200k on them in 3-4 years then they get a new one. We have a medical transport sienna that comes thru every couple services, it’s an 2018, last I saw it was at 120k.

I put almost 30k on my 15 the first year I had it.

I drive 30-35k miles a year, and that's rookie numbers to some of my buddies who travel to west texas every two weeks and then travel all over when they're home for another 2 weeks. It's completely possible to do. I've put 24k miles on my truck in 9 months since I've had it, and I've limited my driving alot due to the pandemic.

WS is not a "high temp fluid " it's a basic semi synthetic just good enough to meet Toyota standards .. it leaves alot to be desired .. that's why it's best to upgrade to a Full synthetic . Like max life or amsoil .

I don’t really take pics of truck that get driven, it’s normal to see them rack the miles up quick here, I see it and I’m like, oh nice. And on to the next one

It operates at a higher temp, that’s how it’s explained to us I Toyota training and about ws fluid. And neither of those fluids are an upgrade over WS.

WS Toyota transmission fluid is not a high temp fluid, nor is it a synthetic fluid. That is coming straight from Exxon Mobil, who makes that fluid for Toyota

LOL. Ok . Sounds like your drinking to corporate Toyota koolaid there ... . Amsoil has real world study's from third part labs confirming that their signature series fluid out performs all OEM fluids my leaps and bounds .... WS is manufactured by Exxon Mobil for Toyota . It's a basic semi synthetic . There's more proof showing the aftermarket full synthetic options are way better than there is proof that ws is superior . Which it is clearly not !

more like first hand experience other than reading a piece of paper, I’ve seen other fluid get put in to a ws trans and shell it. I still don’t get the fuss, when WS fluid clearly works and lasts that’s fact not just tundra but across the board In all the models.

The fluid that you've seen added to Toyota transmissions was probably not comparable with ws..
Amsoil oil clearly states it's fully comparable with Toyota ws .. been using the stuff myself for years in many different makes of transmission including Toyota's . Never an issue . Fluid stayed cherry red way longer than the OEM did .
Please don't take offense but being a technician at a dealer is like living under a rock in the automotive industry . A technician can be very sheltered and their knowledge is very limited to that specific make ....
Ive been a tech for 20 yrs myself . Worked at a few dealers . But most of my experience is working on all make and models with a wide variety of experience . Just so you know that I'm not some arm chair forum mechanic lol spouting off opinions .

if you absolutely want to change the fluid, Amsoil because of their warranty is the only fluid I would recommend. And make sure it’s a good shop and they really use that fluid. We had a local shop a few years back I guess got a discount on mercon fluid and did flushes on a few with it, tundra, 4runner and I think Camry, we’ll all 3 got new trans,[/QUOTE]

Not towing, no need for the cooler. Towing, put a cooler on it. Your not going to see many issue because most dont tow heavy. Toyota use an ambient cooler on the Tundra from 07 to 18 with the tow package. Did they just discover after all those years they dont need it now?

There's is a simple reason for the removal. In 2019 the Tundra went with R1234YF which required a condenser change. They couldn't continue to use the condenser to cool the ATF because R1234YF is not as efficient. It was easier to remove and use the warmer/cooler only for two model years rather than spend the money on a new design.

    No no no no no!!

Evil corporate greed is the sole reason! And this transmission temp fixation is reaching hysteria.

You guys need to ferret out what other systems they scrimped on, seeing how this model is being ushered out.

If you are into conspiracy theories @hagrid might be on to something...:spy::spy:

this could be part of some sophisticated plot by the Toyota Corporate Machine to cause premature failures just around the time the 2022 models come out with their non-V8, eco friendly Tundras. Everyone with a 19-21 Tundra will have their transmissions fail and will have to get the new model!

They didn’t plan on the sharpies on this forum to figure it out though...:burnrubber:

I think they put a 32 gallon tank in mine and used single stage paint.

They ripped me off for six gallons and a paint stage!

In all seriousness this thread (all 778 posts so far) has focused on a problem that has not yet occurred: premature transmission failures. Some have reported a high temp alarm and they should certainly see their dealer.

But the fact is: no one that I’m aware of has reported their 19-20 transmission failing as a result of the lack of an external transmission cooler. Only time will tell.
