If you look at his cost list on all the parts included (and he will give it to you BTW along with all the parts and how to source them) you will see that hes only making about $100 per kit. I dont think thats to much mark up when you consider how much time and effort he puts it to get everything together and pack it up all nice and neat and send it out to you.

Meh, I feel like this thing is solid. I tow only a couple days a year, and will haul around some plywood now and then. The interesting lsd isn't a make or break, I still feel after doing moderately in depth research on all the other brand option trucks fro 19/20 the Tundra wins. Once warranty is out I will do all the mods to bring it up to my standards i.e. ARB locker, Trans cooler, and suspension upgrades.

I'll let you know when I hit 100k as I have no intention of installing a cooler and will continue to tow

I am here to avoid being that person. There is just not enough logic to support that these high temps are "acceptable" to me.

Here's pics of my original trans filter I split open when I serviced it at 175k. Notice how little clutch material is in there. After 175k miles. Transmission fluid was changed only once before this at 80k miles. With WS fluid. Previous owner towed alot and did alot of off roading as he was an avid hunter. Truck now has 196k miles and runs flawlessly.

Was the lack of cooling hidden or misrepresented when people bought their vehicles?

What temperature does your transmission run at when empty and when towing?

What you “think” (from what I can tell lacking any significant professional experience or know how) and what Toyota engineers have spent decades figuring out in terms of reliability really doesn’t correlate. Be happy that you complained enough to hopefully get them to write a rider into your warranty allowing for an external transmission cooler. And then be done with it......or get rid of the truck.

Empty about 198 to 200. Loaded the pan can get to 220 to 230 with my camper, fully loaded at about 7000lbs or more. I drive fast and dont cut it any slack. The torque converter temps get alot higher. Have seen 250+ while towing.

When the dealer was going through the features of mine with me, my salesman specifically mentioned that the towing package came with a transmission cooler and was rated to 10,200lb both of which are false.

I would say yes! Even the window sticker indicates it has a transmission cooler, a stretch at best.

Trans Cooler. 5100's up front at mid-setting. ESP Plastic Storage.
Same here regarding the lifetime powertrain warranty through the dealer. The cost is doing all service at my dealer. I've not yet had my first service performed, but I doubt I'll allow my dealer to service it even for the first two free oil changes. I'm certain I'll spend more having them service it at inflated prices over the years than I will to buy a new transmission if it happens to fail someday. I'll do my own service and because of that, there is the very slight possibility I will have to replace the transmission on my own dime. Who knows, maybe I'll install a trans cooler after I'm out of the manufacturer's warranty term, but not before. Lifetime powertrain warranty = VOID for me.

How did you not notice there wasn't a transmission cooler mounted in front of the radiator before taking delivery of your truck?

What year is your truck? My 2020 runs about 240 out of the TQ converter unloaded under light driving.

I put tranny coolers on several F150s. They are not expensive and install is relatively easy. That said the tranny cooler should come with the towing package. Toyota probably thinks they are no longer needed. I would like to hear their reasoning on this.

I am completely new to Toyota and honestly this was not on my radar until I found out about it.This is my first new vehicle I have ever bought. I figured I could trust the fact that older tundra's I knew had one and the window sticker was pretty clear. It really is my fault for not looking and going deep into the specs. Since the dealers window sticker states it has one I really wasn't initially concerned about it figuring that maybe it was in combo with the radiator which in a way it is? It is more a peace of mind topic to me after finding the temps with my scan gauge, not that it will have any extremely negative effects while I am still under warranty but that it "could" cause longer term negative effects.

I just noticed mine doesn't have a sunroof, I'll be calling Toyota HQ on Monday :eek2:

In all seriousness though, I don't recall being told there was or wasn't. I figured it's a Toyota, they should know what they are doing and my towing purposes will be fine. By the sounds of it, most if not all of us, are over our payload when towing too

If they offer me a free transmission cooler, I'll take it

It's a '14. I'm running schaeffers 204SAT trans fluid, which is slightly thicker in viscosity than WS. I was supposed to use 205A trans fluid. Contacted schaeffers and they told me that the 204 is slightly thicker, and if I wasnt experiencing any issues then I was ok to run it. I live in the south and so it doesnt see cold weather often.

Every Toyota truck that I have purchased with the towing package had a factory cooler mounted in front of the radiator, and I checked under the hood to confirm it's existence before sealing the deal.

So I bit and got the OBDS Fusion app and a Veepeak OBD2 BT reader. Yesterday running up the road at 65mph in 97F heat, with just my daughter and myself in the car, my torque converter fluid was running 185F. I had an error in my pan PID equation so it was an erroneous reading.

I have 285/70 Nitto's and the Westcott lift on a 2020 TRD Pro. Also have an extra 200# between the rock sliders and MX4.

I tow a boat weekly. It weighs about 5,000#, but more importantly has a t top that acts like a parachute. Interested to see what temps I get towing it.

How about just changing the transmission fluid at 60,000 miles like it says in the book that no one reads? Hell, you could do that even if you don't tow.

Why would I look to verify something that's always been there and the window sticker says is there?
I also didn't look underneath to check if it had the 38 gallon fuel tank. Guess I lucked out on that one.
