I was looking at a mesquite brown 2018 platinum, but the deals on the 2017's were too good to pass up. Came home with a 2017 SR5 with XSP package. Other than all the safety stuff they added to the 2018, it's the same. Less stuff to break when we go off-road with the 2017.

I'm seriously considering pulling the trigger on an '18 black platinum right now. I gotta get a car in the next month due to relocating to TX and I just can't look past that front end and all the trimmings inside. Where is everyone getting to price wise? Would it be better for me to wait for Thanksgiving sales and find a way to tide myself over on the difference maybe?

Not sure you will see a better deal around Thanksgiving. End of year and January you probably will. I spent almost a year looking and found that was the case.

    Sully,

I currently have a 2016 F-150 Platinum 3.5 EB myself and are seriously considering a Tundra 1794 or Platinum.

Would you mind sharing your Tundra experience since you came from the same truck I have?

    Thank you.

I'm new to this forum... so hello! I've had this beauty for almost 2 weeks and I love it. It's a 2018 Platinum CM 4x4 and is HUGE step up in technology and comfort from the 2012 Rock Warrior CM 4x4. My "to-do" list includes: adding the "oh sh#t handle" back to the driver's side, color matched mirrors, color matched handles, TRD shifter, and a drop-in liner.

So far... the hunt for the Toyota drop-in liner has been fruitless... two dealers in the PHX valley have both said they are unavailable with no ETA... which is super frustrating. I have inquired on another Tundra forum for an exact part # for the 2018... but don't have an answer yet. If anyone can help with a part number... that would be great so I can search online parts sources. (not many are updated for 2018s yet) I do have the rail system. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would seriously consider NOT getting the drop in liner and the damage they do to the bed. I've seen too many drop in cause way more damage then having one without or just get a line-x, its about $470-500 for just the basic which isn't that much more than a drop in.

Nice truck. The bed is the same from 14-18. Some people pretty much give those away if you check your local Craigslist. If I were you I would go with line-x spray in also. Something to think about. Or if you really want a drop in have you considered bed rug?

Sharp looking truck. Start a build page!

well went and put $500 down on the new Platinum CM that is going to be built on 02-Nov. added a access roll-up cover to be installed before pickup. still on the fence on adding the line-x ($470) before I pick it up. think I need to add the aftermarket remote start before I need the liner.

Curious what damage they cause? Only thing I've heard is rusting... and that won't happen fast here in AZ. Is it a paint rubbing issue? This is my 3rd Tundra... the other two came with drop-ins from the dealer and I personally like them. We went on a ~4,000 mile camping trip (7 states) this past summer with the Rock Warrior and it's so much easier to pull all of our camping gear in and out of the bed with a plastic liner. I also thought the plastic liners protected a little better from bed dents, no?

Only problem is the Bluetooth sucks ass!

Thanks for the info and the CL tip! I've never been a spray-in fan... but I'll do a little more reading up on it. Definitely do not want a bed rug. I think that only makes sense if the bed never sees the light of day... like under a cap.

    Congrats on your new truck!

I've been using Bluetooth to stream music and for calls for years with a '12 Rock Warrior CM and now the new '18 Platinum CM without fail. Is it the quality of the sound you don't like or are you experiencing disconnects? For calls... I found adjusting the volume for what you hear in the cab helps.

Look into spray in.. Once I have had spray in, i never go back to anything else. There is no down side to it except for price. But def. worth the price in my opinion.

    1. liner rubbing the paint down to the metal
    2. liner trapping water/debris between the liner and actual bed

the two above will accelerate the rust thru of the bed

go look at some youtube video's of what I mean, some are downright nasty.

If you turn the sensitivity up it lets you know plenty early. Had someone start to back up from a parking space in front of me. Warning went off I hit the brake and with the BRAKE ASSIST I stopped immediately. The brake assist amplifies your brake application and really lays on the binders hard. Too hard maybe.

Also I found that the cross traffic alert works too. I started to back out of my driveway while I was talking to my wife. Someone came down the street going too fast and before I got into the street the alarm went off and it helped stop me.

So, I've found that the systems work pretty well, but as with anything electronic you cannot completely rely on it. Last night on my way down the freeway the collision alert went off very briefly even though all the traffic was moving at a steady pace and I was a good 75 yards from the nearest car in front of me, Just went on and off like that. Weird.

So I know that many of you were encouraging me to sway in the direction of a spray in liner... but I stuck to my guns on a drop in. Found a Toyota drop in here in the PHX valley today from a Toyota dealer for $273.75. (list is $365) I had drop ins in my two prior Tundras and I personally like them. No complaints and no problems. Tonneau cover will be next. The truck is garage kept... and it will never become a rust bucket here in AZ. It really suits my needs perfectly. I DO appreciate all the responses and input... even if I chose to go in another direction. ;)

INFORMATION TIP: The parts folks weren't sure if the older style bed extenders would fit the '18 Tundras. I can tell you that they DO. The new style bed extender appears to be more v-shaped and less efficient for the space actually using the tailgate area. I've moved this bed extender from a '10 DC to a '12 CM and now to an '18 CM. See photos below. So... if you have an older Tundra and are looking at an '18... you can take your older bed extender with you. Easy-peasy. 4 bolts.

Thanks, @Ely010606! I'll check that cover out. I have had two TruXport covers that I liked... but I'm open to others. Wouldn't mind a more rigid cover... but I loved the flexibility of the roll-back type. I'll google that cover you mentioned and check it out!

Sound noise is feedback durring calls mostly. I adjusted the volume, but i'm kinda hard of hearing. I'v also never liked the Entune system much.

Got it. I'll have to play with mine more. The Entune is new to me... as the '12 RW didn't have that system. I'm still learning how to access all the available apps and I think I've only made one or two calls with this new truck. I don't recall any feedback, but I'll have to play with it more to get a better feel for it. On the old one... volume adjustment (usually on the lower end of the spectrum) would help a bit with clarity... at least for me. I hope you find some settings or tips from others with more time with the Entune system that might help!

YES it was! :woot: The bed extenders are awesome... I use mine all the time... both inside the bed of the truck to corral things... or as intended for bigger things! Totally worth the 5 minutes to pop out and keep if you're upgrading to a different truck.

I live in CA and I prefer the looks of spray in. I also find the drop in liners to be slippery. I went with the spray in and I think that a lot of folks are moving to the spray in these days. But I also put a Bed Rug mat in. I don't really care that much if it gets dirty because I'll just take it to one of those spray car washes and douche it out. To each his own I guess.
