The scoop does look pretty good even so it is just cosmetics.

I wonder if at some point one can just buy the scoop, drill a few holes and bolt it on, looks like all that has to be removed is the liner inside the hood.

I'll try to keep an eye on it. I'm not much for scoops and the like. Function > form, but to each his own.

Just found out some alarming news...seems that Toyota is holding out on making the Sport hood available to the general public for now. According to the dealership parts manager where I ordered my truck, the Sport hood will only be available to replace damaged TRD Sport trucks and must have VIN confirmation in order to order a hood. So, I guess for now (and maybe well into Feb-according to the dealer info) I will not get this upgraded look. In my opinion, this is another one of many limits to a Toyota customer wanting to spend money with them. If they were open minded, I would have purchased (special ordered) a Barcelona Red, lLimited (loaded) TRD Sport, with TRD offroad package options with an 8 foot box...I guess while I'm dreaming, I would have paid $45k. Oh well!!!

so it looks like it just a stick on scoop, not a different hood. Is that correct?

You can still buy the truck and when the scoop (not the whole hood) becomes available just buy it.

I am sure, once the scoop becomes available it will come with mounting hardware and a template, should be an easy install. Depending on price I might get one for mine. I know they are non-functional but they do look good.

I would think that you have to remove the sound dampening mat to see how it is mounted. Anyway, I wouldn't mind drilling the holes, it isn't hard to do and I done it before. You just have to not worry about drilling a bunch of holes in your new truck. Once you drill the first hole you are committed and it gets easier.

I've seen some of the drill thru your hood scoops already available...I think thru Jegs. Now that I've picked up my truck, I'm just happy for what it is and probably won't invest in the new sport hood yet. It really is nice though!

It's Definitely bolt on, I went by my local dealership yesterday afternoon to pick up my door sill protectors and spoke to the parts guy, using the vin number of a sports that they had recently sold we were able to pull up the microfiche and see that the scoop on the truck is bolt on and it only comes in separate pieces and not as a kit, here's a pic with the all the parts......

You seem surprised by the price that Dealer charge for parts......lol
Seriously though, I believe that it already comes painted to match, so no bodyshop needed to prep and paint the aesthetically pleasing scoop, just drill some holes and install.

Those are only the scoop parts. I state below the part numbers that you'll either have to buy a new hood from a TRD sport, or drill into your existing hood. I can't get mounting pictures or anything because we don't have a sport here. I must also stress, that I would HIGHLY advise against drilling into your existing hood for this.

I ordered my parts this week, after extensive research on these parts, and they should be here by Monday. There is only 1 part number for the 2018 hood wheter you have a sport or sr5. Holes would have to be drilled no matter what.
I sold parts for years and I am very good friends with everyone at my dealership. I am hoping that they will bring on into service, drop the hood insulator, and allow me to make a template of the holes.
I will let y'all know after I get my parts.

Part number for the 2018 TRD Sport/Pro hood: 53301-0C060

Part number for the rest of the models: 53301-0C050

I haven't seen the replacement hood in person, but from the different part number and the image in the catalog of the hood, I'm pretty sure there are holes there. I don't think Toyota would have body shops drill their own holes into body panels.
