For what its worth... I picked up my brand new truck with the Pre Collision Sensor on, showing trailer brake error, traction control etc. The dealer had to order a part which came in the next day and on the service order it just says Air Bag ECU Failure. The truck was fixed no alerts for 4 days... then, I installed a TRDPRO grill making my own mounts for the sensor but like above the light comes on with no beeps this time saying that my PCS is turned off and to clean the sensor. I just turn it off for now just in case but have a TRD Sport grill now on order that I will install and hope that the sensor goes back to working as it should... also worth mentioning after installing the PRO grill, I just had coilovers/wheels and 35" tires installed but since I am only at 2.5" I don't expect that to cause an issue. Dealer may think otherwise...

Just thought I would quickly follow up since my grill arrived today... out with the old TRDPRO and in with the new TRDSport. So far truck is back to normal with no code.

So I just want to clarify, is it ok to level the truck, considering of purchasing the 5100s for my 2018 cm to add some better shoes? I love the PCS since it has saved my butt twice now and I did have a random incident during heavy rain telling me to break when their was clearly nothing in front of me, but so far it’s been useful that I Love this truck for it. I just don’t want the wife thinking the tundra was a bad choice after installing mods and I start to vist the service dept more often when I should of just kept it stock to not even deal with problems. So what are the advice from my 2018 tundra owners, worth the gamble or just keep it the way it is?

You are running a risk of losing the TSS if you do. My PCS has only worked once since ive gotten the truck. Just be aware of that. More people have been ok, rather than not. My dealership said that they had levelled about 8 trucks and mine was the only one with the issue. He also had a couple of trucks that were not levelled and also had issues with previous fixes. My dealer refuses to swap the SRS ECU until Toyota technical tells them to. That's what really pisses me off because others here were able to have it done. Best of luck to you, that you don't have any issues if you do proceed.

So based on what the dealer said, some trucks have the issue and some don't, regardless of whether or not the truck has been lifted / leveled.

I've also read several posts from Toytec in other threads indicating Toyota has advised them that lifts are OK but that there needs to be a little rake (.75 - 1 inch) so that the TSS systems will work properly. I wonder if there is a difference between "working properly" and throwing codes. A level truck will have the sensor pointed up at a higher angle than stock so the system may not function exactly as designed but that may not necessarily mean that the truck will display error codes.

I'm still planning on doing a lift but now I'm considering leaving about 3/4" of rake rather than level even though I don't care whether or not the PCS works. I'd rather level the truck but I don't want to create a problem for myself and it's starting to sound like the PCS error codes may not be related to leveling the truck.

Not sure how high mine was lifted since I didn't do the install myself, plus I had rims and tires done the same day. I have Kings and asked them not to crank down on any preload so its set exactly as you would receive out of the box. I have heard anywhere from 2-2.5" of lift. Since putting the stock style grill back on I drove 100 miles yesterday and no code. The rear is stock, so it seems each truck has its own idea of what is okay but I would imagine its the dealer who would want to take the extra step and try to recalibrate the sensor as I find it hard to believe its a set it and forget it type system.

Like I mentioned in an earlier post... my truck bought stock was throwing a code, ECU swap = Fixed! Not sure why they are not more accommodating to you Larmand. Maybe try a new dealer.

I have a level kit coming in tomorrow for the front. Now I am thinking of leaving it alone.

My dealer actually said I was the first one with that airbag software update they had to do, I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing? Lol

I measured mine and as it sits with a 3/2 "level", I'm at 1.25" rake. With 275/70 18 tires.... Ground to top of fender wells is 42" in rear and 40.75" in front.

Does anyone know, is Toyota working on a fix for this!? Or, will it be up to us to mod the sensors?

Who is working on this!? If Toyota plans to launch the TRDPro in '19, they'll have to get this squared away! They say, that's why it's not available this year...

Dealership won't lift the truck I just bought that's sitting at the dealer. :/

I also have a bone stock SR5 TRD Crew Cab. I had the same issue with the PCS light coming on. I never got the error message just the light. Dealership had my truck for a whole week. Fixed it once and i made it 1/2 mile from the dealership and the light came back on. Took it right back and then two days later they called to tell me that they were taking a new truck apart and putting the parts in my truck. Turned out to be a bad radar sensor in the grill. They confirmed ib by placing my sensor in the new truck and withing 2 mile the light came on. So far i have over 100 miles on the truck and have not had the light come back on. I only have 450 miles on the truck as of now so i hope this solves the problem. While talking with my salesman, he also told me that the dealership can no longer install any lift in any new Tundra or Tacoma because of the safety sense issues.

Curious about this, what happens then if you have a heavy load on the bed therefore, leveling the truck? Would TSS throw an error?

So I installed a 2.5 spacer in the front last week. I know it’s a spacer and for now it will be fine until I put 5100’s on
I have about 1” rake in it and no issues at all. Everything works as it should

I just put on a 3" front spacer and the ToyTec 1.5" shackles on my truck. I've had no issues with my 2018.

I just received this notice in the mail from Toyota. I also have a 2018 sr5 4x4 TRD and had the PCS warning come on once. I am taking to the dealer soon to have this address and my 5k service.

Having an '18 and waiting to level / lift my truck I have been following the TSS / PCS error threads for a couple of months. It sounds like some trucks have the PCS issue and some don't, regardless of whether or not they are lifted. Some dealers are selling new '18s with a lift installed - see the new member from Las Vegas thread as just one example - https://www.tundras.com/threads/new-owner-in-vegas.21308/ - and some dealers are saying no lift.

As one of the posters above pointed out, a load in the rear of the truck will change the rake / level on the truck. Does this mean that PCS errors should be expected whenever the truck is used to haul or tow? No, it means that some dealers are full of crap. Who knew?

I just want to make sure when I lift mine, that the TSS works like it's supposed too, and the warranty doesn't get voided. :bananadance::bananadance:

So since the 2019 trd pro is lifted, will Toyota service dept still make excuses that the upgraded lift/level is causing the TSS to act up and void warranty?

Another member on here installed a TRD pro grill, but then swapped to the original grill insert so TSS still works. I bought a pro grill and plan on trying that myself.

And I'm sure they'll make it work on a Pro under max tow for the 2019, we'll probably just ending up needing THAT sensor.

I'm just going to wait on the new pro grill. That way toyota can not blame a hack job on warranty work.

The problem with a lift is not the sensor its the camera from what i have read. That being said mine works fine. I have the pro suspension so its leveled.

I've been toying (no pun intended) with lifting the truck but the TSS issue has me pretty concerned. I reached out to several companies like BDS about their lifts for a 2018 and they all tell me that it is still in development due to the TSS issue. I did however speak to someone at ProComp and they said their 2017 kit works fine on a 2018 with TSS and also emailed me a letter from their Director of Engineering who, according to the person I was speaking with, was the Head of Engineering at TRD. The letter is attached.

The guys at my dealership were fine with it, said it was a good idea and they were going to pass it on, so I'm not really worried about problems with warranty work.

I think you may be on to something with the clues you’ve provided. It sounds like it is occurring only in the afternoon when you’ve had the sunshade in. This needs to be known by Toyota. Are you starting the car with the sunshade in? Or are you removing it first? Is the shade cut wide open around the area of the sensors under mirror, or is it possibly closed trapping heat? If you touch the plastic shroud under mirror, is it hot with sunshade in?
