hello all, I’ve decided to buy a Platinum and so I’ve been watching all the websites for low mileage used and also waiting for the Red Tag Sale to start here in Ontario when I came across this ad...
    https://www.georgianchevrolet.com/V...8-Toyota-Tundra-Platinum-Barrie-ON/3386938013
...so what do you think? I for one, for several reasons would never buy a GM and I just can’t believe someone would actually trade this beauty in for a GM so how would it get on this lot? I’m tempted to buy it just because it’s a great price, it just bugs me!

Get it. People trade in for all kinds of reasons. I got my Tundra off a Nissan lot. Aurora PD Gang Investigation Unit had some sort of arrangement and had just turned in my future Tundra for another SUV to use in their anti gang operations.

Don’t think to much into it. Maybe they needed a 3/4 or 1 ton.

Make damn sure it is a steal... There is 0% or $2000 on the '19 tundra in Ohio right now. Most of the time you are so close to a new one that used makes no sense. I tried for 6 mos to get a clean used tundra... Overtime I found one it was still the same if not cheaper to go new. Used interest rates are creeping up. Hell, I tried to get a deal on a left-over '17 and the dealer gave a better deal on an '18 demo with 1800 miles and incentives. $45,000 invested at 4% compounding interest will make $9,000 in 5 years. Hard not to use the 0%

Thanks for the quick replies and great advice guys, I’ve been also looking at a 2016 1794 Platinum with 38,000 km’s for $46,000 at a local Toyota dealer. It’s a beautiful truck but the only thing that’s stopping me is I’m not sure if I will miss the adaptive cruise and lane departure upgrades in the 2018/19 models

I hated the radar distance on the cruise at first. You have to watch your speed rather than covering the ground. You think you're cruising at speed but you are actually just holding distance at the lower speed of the guy in front of you. Takes some getting used to. The lane departure is annoying as hell in the country on narrow roads. Maybe I just drive like shit, but I hear it enough from the wife, I don't need my truck to bitch at me too. Now the wife has something that agrees with her. Thanks Toyota!!!

It could have been bought at a auction. Around here dealerships send some of the trade ins to the auction and also buy vehicles if they can get a good deal.

Lane departure sucks. It’s annoying. Adaptive cruise control is AMAZING!
GM has a much better lane keep assist (seat vibrates and the truck actually steers itself back into the lane, Toyota just gives you an annoying beep- my wife has a new suburban).
The adaptive cruise however (IMO) is worth the price of admission!

Lol...I hear yah about the annoying lane departure feature in addition to the wife factor...lol. We have a new CRV with these features but we can turn them off if we don’t want to use them, is the Toyota the same?
I know that some of the ‘big three’ dealerships will grab a Toyota from an auction now and then and stick it way out front to make people believe someone traded their Toyota for one of theirs but the truck in the ad is so new and low miles that it’s hard to believe it would have been sent to an auction...but hey you never know!
I’m still thinking hard about the 2016 Platinum and may go look at it soon, after all we bought our 2008 when it was 3 years old with about 20,000 km’s and it’s been a great truck.
Thanks again for all the great advice
    Tim

I would not like that GM lane assist. I like the warning beeper that Toyota has, but would not like the vehicle steering itself unless it was completely self-driving.

This was me back in December. Went to look at a 2016 that after I drove, was trashed on the inside, had been repainted on the bed, and needed tires. Then I found out about the 0% and the payments wasn't that much off in difference. Went 2019 and am loving the thing.

Different people, different wants and needs. Maybe they traded it in for a Z06. I’m not even mad. :burnrubber:

More correctly is that the Tundra gives you a beep.... our new 2019 Camry will gently steer you back into the lane. First time it happened to me I couldn't figure it out since the Tundra didn't do it.

You can buy a new one for around this much.

Also, a lot of the dealer inventory is purchased from manheim auto auction. More than likely this was a repo or something. For instance missing the first payment is usually grounds for a repo.

I got my '15 limited crewmax from a local Hyundai dealer. Truck had 1 owner and was a lease in Florida. I'm in Mississippi. I figured they turned the lease in, it went to auction, and local dealer got it. Actually sat on their lot for over 60 days and was going back to the auction the day I went to test drive it. Made for awesome dealing leverage.

Around here in order to get below $40k, I had to get 16' or older Platinum and over 60k miles. With low rates and another 2k cash back, I ended up buying new.

Same thing with the wife's 4Runner 2 years ago. Different world when it comes to Toyota. Unless you are looking at 5 years old and 100,000 miles it usually makes sense to buy new.

I guess we are forgetting to convert that to US currency. That $ amount equals $39,993 is dollars.....

Haha, I had to double take as I thought it was a dealer in Georgia first and was like what are they smoking!!!

Actually, compared to what I have seen that is a pretty good price....

The 0% interest is what made me go with a Tundra. I was leaning that way but that helped me decide. Worth considering if you’re financing. First vehicle with adaptive cruise control and I love it. The lane departure stays turned off.

that's a good price, plus you don't have to pay dealer prep and shipping, I bought my tacoma in 09 with 6500km on it saved 9000 off msrp.

Yah, sorry guys I forgot to mention this truck is in Ontario,Canada :canada:
The dealership where this truck is located is about 6 hrs away so I’m probably going to pass as I’m not in a hurry.
I contacted a salesman at the local Toyota dealership who came highly recommended, this is the dealership with the 2016 Platinum, he told me the Red Tag Sale starts April 1’st so I’m going to go there to see the 2016 and also see what type of deal I can get on a new one....so now I need to decide on what colour I want and do I trade my 2008 or sell it
    Wish me luck!:fingerscrossed:

One of the reasons I’m happy I bought a 2016. My wife has a 2017 Rav 4 with the adaptive CC and it’s a pain in the arse in my opinion.

My Tundra is the only vehicle I have ever bought from a dealership. When I was searching I noticed a trend which I think made sense. I found 4 trucks, all SR5 and all right around 60k miles. The only differences were really minor, color, window tint and one had a spray bed liner.

A white 04 was at a Toyota dealership, asking 19,500.

A black 03 with bed liner and tint but slightly higher miles at a Toyota, asking 18k.

A green 03 with tinted windows and lowest mileage of the group at a Chevy dealer asking 15,900.

A black 03 with the plastic bed liner at a Saturn dealership for 13,899.

In talking to the Toyota dealer with the black one, I asked why I should pay an extra 4k for a bed liner and window tint. He said it's really because this truck is "certified pre-owned" and only a dealership of the same brand can say that. The cheaper truck is just "used" but not certified. Then he asked why I don't consider the new Tacoma since its comparable size?

It hit me. The dealer will sell their own brand high to help encourage sales of newer vehicles. You don't show up at a Chevy dealer to buy a Tundra, then get talked into a Silverado, so theres no point to mark that Toyota up. You definitely won't show up at a Saturn dealership to buy a Tundra and get talked into a VUE hahaha, so I got a great deal there. By the way the Saturn guy told me my truck belonged to an older guy and his wife had a hard time getting in and out, so he traded in. Could be true, could be a sales pitch.
