2018 Interior plastic issues

Just picked up some of this.. gonna use it on my rubber parts of my caps windows as well.. was highly recommended

 

well mine has a crack under the handle now on driver side. No idea where it came from or how it happened. It looked just like scratch when i went to try and clean it up something didn't seem right. I pushed on it and it's
cracked. 2018 with less than 19K miles on it. Anyone know if that's covered under the warranty? I have to say I hate the interior plastic. I have a Boxer that travels with me every day and for some reason he likes to lay down in the passenger front seat and hold his front foot on the dashboard He has scratched the crap out of the dash and the passenger side door.

 

Looks like the plastic was flexed or almost creased and that’s what the result is. You can’t wipe it off. All you can do is replace the part, figure out how to paint it or just learn to live with it. I’ve learned to just live with it over the years because the kids will just do it again.

 

That’s a good idea. I’ll have to try it.

 

Use this product. It does an excellent job to get rid of all that without it being greasy. One of best products I ever used. It’s called “303 Aerospace Protectant”. I had all those marks and used this product. You can get it on Amazon and it really helped. I’ll attach a pic of the bottle. The interior plastic of Toyota’s I find scuffs very easy.

 

While it may help a little, Toyota interior plastics are some of the worst I've seen, and I've detailed a bunch of different makes/models. The heat gun will work.....I've only ever used one on faded exterior plastics, but you need to be extremely careful with it.

 

Thanks good to know. That was on my 15 blue truck. Hasn’t happened on my pro yet. But will keep this product in mind.

 

Probably is my biggest complaint with the tundra. Interior plastic is not good at all. Scratches very easily

 

No worries. You’ll like it a lot. It brings all plastics back to life and gives it a deep rich colour but without the grease.

 

I had same issue with Tundras and Camry. My brother had same issue with his 4Runner too. I think all the models use cheap interior plastics.

 

At least they don’t crack like my old dodge dashboard.

 

How did this happen and how old was the truck ? I’m curious ? Did they ever fix it ?

I know when I use to live in the Middle East , everyone covered their dash because of the sun and heat.

 

It was on my 2002 Dodge ram. The first year when they change the body style. It didn’t crack until it was about 10 years old. They were notorious for it. Always put the sunvisor up. I had given it to my mother and it happened on her watch. A company even made a glue and please cover because it was so common. It’s right up the middle LOL

same issue on my 19 PRO. easy to get dirt marks all over.

my old 4runners weren't this bad but the interior trim pieces would scratch if you looked at it wrong.

 

I love my Tundra,but the quality of a lot of the interior pieces,is fair at best.

 

After 13 years and almost 300,000 miles, my dash is losing some of it's blackness.

What is an easy fix for this?

 

Should be able to buy interior plastic paint and spray the affected areas

 

Did you buy that new or used? Looks like it was originally tan and was painted.

 

I purchased it used with 270,000 miles... the dash has always been black, and it looks like one of the previous owners dragged a large key chain across the dash when entering & exiting.

 

Haha I agree. My tundra came with scratched plastics from the factory. My truck was brand new with 3 miles on it. I noticed all the hairline scratches on the door panel the first time a I washed and detailed my truck, which was only like a week after I got it!

 

we used to use SEM interior spray paint and had good results.

 

LOL Toyota interiors are crap compared to Subaru's.. My wife Ascent holds up much better than my Tundra and we have kids!

Penny pinching gotta start somewhere with Toyota and it's their plastic interiors.

 

That's what I told my wife - "All automakers cheap out somewhere....it's WHAT they cheap out on that is important."

The interior on my F150 held up fairly well, though I can tell you that it wasn't really that much better at all than the interior on my new Tundra. If I remember correctly, Toyota uses some proprietary technique to fit/mold regular old cheap plastic to where it looks and wears pretty darn decent, whereas others will use more expensive stuff, but obviously it costs more.

Personally, I'll take some scratches and scuffs on the interior over a substandard transmission/media system like I had in the F150. LOL

 

My 2015 interior is black, but between the door and the pillar are two different shades of black. This didn't appear until after 2-3 years of ownership. Crappy interior for 50K!

 

I had to spray some plastic to the rear kick panel because it was getting all f'n scratched up. so cheap.

 

True but I'll *STILL* take a Toyota over an F150 any day of the week. lol

 

If you’re worried about that little scratch you might want to get a different truck. Although, I have 3 dogs that ride in the what used to be the back seat area and while there are many scratches, nothing has been broken. And they love to break shit.

 

It’s a defect in molding. Guys have been able to remove them with a heat gun.

 

If it’s under warranty take it back. It’s a know Issue.
