2018 Crewmax SR5 - Need Suggestions

    I just traded in my 08 for this truck which has the non-JBL system in it. I modded my 08 with a new HU, speakers, 5 channel amp and sub aand it sounded great.

    My wife will kill me if I spend much money on a new sound system right now, so I need some sage advice on what I can do to improve the sound. Can I stick with the existing HU or is that stupid? I would like to get some bass but not bone shaking amount. I willl likely do the install myself.

    Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    I have a 2016 with the non JBL system. I set the bass to full and it has helped quite a bit. Don't be afraid to up the volume, even at full power it will not distort. It sounds ok with where I have the settings and at higher volume.

    Our stereos don't have much power, I would guess probably 1/2 as much as aftermarket systems or premium stock systems in other trucks/cars. You could add an amp, woofer and such to your stock system but I think just changing the head unit would be cheaper and give much better sound than adding to the stock system. It would also enable you to get android auto and other apps.

    For comparison, I changed just the head unit in my 2006 4 runner and it was like I installed a full system with speakers, woofer, etc. It was a night and day different. The 4runner system sounds so much better than my 10 years newer Tundra.

    Out stereo systems pretty much suck. Cost effective and better performance option is to swap the head unit vs. putting lipstick on a pig.

    Head units are a weak point so I’d start there replace it first.
