2017 Tundra Hard to Start FIX

I have a 2017 Toyota Tundra that was over cranking to start sometimes it would take a couplle of times to start . The tail pipe would smell rich of fuel. I read all the horror stories on here being a fuel pump with no fixes a new battery with no fixes. I had new air filter new spark plugs new fuel filter nothing would work. I saw a deal on a mid range scanner and thought I woul give that a try and boy I'm glad I did . I was able to go under maintenance under Engine and ECT and reset the memory and learning values. Been 2 weeks never had to change gas just reset memory and values start up rt now everytime. The scanner I bought is a topdon ArtiDiag 600S. I hope this helps someone.

 

Flex fuel truck?

 

Yes it is

 

Mine needs a pump and every so often you have to reset the alcohol density. Research Flex fuel pump here on the forum. This problem seems to be worse in colder climates. There is a way to put an external filter on these available from URD and bypass the donut filter on the pump. The thinking is why put a Toyota pump that costs $600 if you are going to have the same problems down the road. Some of the members have put a non Flex fuel supply line and blocked off the switching valve while leaving the connection hooked up. Its a pretty big chore to remove those 38 gallon tanks

 

Scanners of any type pay for themselves pretty quickly when your truck starts acting up.
