Traded my 2016 for a 2018 and the trailer brake controller works even better than the TSB updated onthe 2016. braking is proportional even at the gain set at 4, the display shows proportional display. Couldn't be happier, why can't the get the earlier models working correctly.

Interesting. Can you snap a pic of he unit and post it up? I’m curious if it looks to be a completely new/different unit.

unit looks the same as the 2016 IBC, but on the screen you can select 0 to 5000 pounds, 5000 and up, along with both electric or electric over hydraulic. I was using the electric 0 to 5000 setting as the test was my 2000 pound empty car hauler. Had trouble finding the correct screens but did finally find it. You select the trailer weight and type on the setting screen and gain on the towing screen. The steering wheel controls are significantly different than the 2016.

For the record. After pulling our 25 ft TT the re-flash / factory setup was obviously lacking. Not horrible but not great. I did install a Tekonsha P3 and have three more trips under my belt (several thousand miles towing) and the P3 is the right stuff. Toyota, g-dbless you but man get your controller updated to something like the P3 or pound sand and have to listen to internet grouches like me!!!

Both you guys have had experience with both factory and P3. Do you guys still recommend the P3 even with the software flash? Does the P3 have options the factory doesn’t? Sucks the factory one doesn’t work well...

Yes, I recommend it even with the software re-flash. The factory controller is not as sophisticated and after using both would not trust the factory (flashed) controller towing a 5000lb trailer (with WD hitch) dot period. I know that is a strong statement but man it's your rig.

I can't speak about the options one over the other since that's a non-starter as far as I'm concerned. I feel bad that after the reflash I reported here that it seemed ok, I was wrong, it was only marginally better and I now know that. Went with my gut and endless praise here and other places for the P3 and they were right.
