2016 Platinum JBL upgrade

Hi all,
I purchased a 2016 Platinum Crewmax recently and I’m not impressed with the JBL system in it.
Has anyone had much luck just replacing the speakers and NOT the HU or amp?
I don’t want to spend a ton of money. I’m hoping a few hundred bucks for speakers and some kilmat will do the trick.
New to the forum and new to Toyota, always had Chevys in the past.
