Just a quick heads-up on the fix for the bumper recall.

They replaced the rear brackets which were plastic with metal. Which, sounds like a good thing, and probably is since....metal is...uh....stronger.

BUT, beware that it may not be straight when replaced. In my case, the bumper is level, but angled more to the driver than passenger. And is lower on the driver side, nearly touching the exhaust pipe. Now, here is what's weird. In checking the bumpers of new Tundras on the lot, about 1/2 had the same issue. Huh?

Going back to the dealership tomorrow for the 15k checkup and they are going to adjust it. Didn't notice how far off it was until the next day, but can put my hand between the bumper and the truck on the driver side...and not even fingertips on passenger side.

Am I being too picky? :goingcrazy:

No reason they can't get it right.

Many thanks for posting the picture, not quite what I have. Actually, it's more obvious from the top where you step on the bumper. On the drivers side it is further away from the truck than on the passenger side. Also, from the side it is more angled down on the drivers side compared to passenger. Weird.

I'll try and post a pic this evening.

My front bumper is lower on passenger side. Hoping it is adjustable. I am going to check it when I put my new headlights on.

Got the truck back on Tuesday

Sigh....I even pointed out where the bumper was closer to the truck on one side...and put my hand in there. Also, that it was not even with the muffler anymore. The Manager and mechanic watched me and even nodded sympathetically...

Well, they got 1/2 of it right. It is now even with the exhaust pipe and not drooping, but still not even between the truck and the body. When I picked it up, again put my hand in there...as I had shown the SAME manager that morning....he said, "well, maybe we can tweek it a bit more when you bring it back in." :frusty:

Took my local dealer two attempts to get it right and I had to hold the service managers hand walking him to one on the lot to show him what it should look like when done correctly. Then he starts to tell me the new 17s' are factory complied with using different parts and the 16s' are using a modified set up so I should expect some differences in appearance but rest asure functionality is the same. WTH mind blown right do dealers think we as consumers of a product that we wanted don't research and investigate before hand. I told him okay here's the deal I will continue driving this loaner Tundra like I stole it until my bumper looks like that bumper-call me when you think your ready.
In the End they got right so all is well.
