We were in an accident and none of the airbags deployed. We were traveling about 30mph and hit the car in front of us. It was a 4 car pile up. The police and EMTs were very surprised. Thoughts?

I'd wager the crush cans or sensors were on both sides of the frame and the center collision on the bumper forked the sensors. Any more intrusion and it would have likely triggered. She's a big girl.. Its a tough world interacting with these little cars.
Vehicle speed, seatbelt and yaw also play a factor. I looked up the majority of sensors Toyota places and it appears they are mounted on the frame underneath or beside outer radiator supports or below and to the rear of headlight assembly on frame. Somebody will chime in soon with more info
Body shop needs to take a peek underneath to be sure.

It's funny you say this as we think of 30 as not being that fast. I think of it as a perceived invincibility when you go at slower speeds, you think things shouldn't be too bad. I have had 10 mph bumps buckle fenders and doors. You also have to take in consideration that these trucks weight a LOT. That is a lot of mass to impact and, IIRC, most crash tests are done in the 30-35 mph range to where they get the "star" stats from.

I get ya! Not to mention.. no matter what they say, trucks are not built like they were 30 yrs ago, much thinner metals..

and they don't need to be built like they used to be, as the engineering for safety allows for damage to the vehicle to absorb the impact on the passengers. You also don't see vehicles of today rusting out in the body panels like they used to. it's a good thing.

If possible, we'd love to see some follow-up pictures when the body shop pulls the hood and facia off. I wonder if the motor was pushed back or the frame cross member took a hit.
