I don't have an MDX -I have a Crosstour and to be honest, that is the absolute best car I have ever owned. So much so that I kept it when I bough the Tundra.

Our GX460 is nice. I put mid grade gas in about every other fill-up. Do not notice any difference. Mileage sucks no matter what.

Recently had a rental Late model Pathfinder. I hate what they have become from past models but I was very surprised by it. Drove several hundred miles, got great mileage and a ton of room.

In-laws like their Armada, on their 2nd one.

Yes, it does. however you could use regular gas but the engine will run sluggish and end up burning more gas.

    Function before sparkle.
The current generation with the 3.5L is 91 octane recommended, not required by Acura. Previous generation required 91.

Yes, nit picky detail and there are consequenxes, but it isn’t a thou shalt rule.

    Too many TRD parts
I have a 14 mdx for the same purpose that your in. My wife wanted the Infiniti QX80, she saw the price and changed her mind.

Love the MDX, it has been low maintenance for the most part. The gas has been great compared to a tundra. Getting around 24/city and 30/ hey if I cruise around 70 ish.

Had a TL before the MDX, the MDX handles like a TL to me. Fun to drive. Currently about a 100k. Bought it with 50 miles on it.

She drives in metro Atlanta. Good for all her stuff. I have 3 teenage boys and they all fit fine on the 2nd row. Sometimes I have to separate them and put the youngest on the 3rd row and the other two on the 2nd with the armrest done.

The only concern was it made this noise on the driver side front like a pump sound kicking on for about 2-3 seconds randomly. I couldn’t figure out what it was and never could duplicate when at dealer.

Other than that it’s been a great car.

Kind of. It really erks my noodle Toyota won’t Tundra-ize the Sequoia. :D
She found this one and liked it better than many others, but it was 80K miles and we normally purchase around 25-45K miles. I’m a tad scared of her driving such a large SUV. The Tundra I’m okay with her driving because you can see better out the back over the bed.

The newest model Armada she kind of likes. But she’s over Nissan I think.

We have a 2016 MDX SHAWD for the wife daily driver and it is truly best family SUV out there and the most bang for your buck for what you get. We have had zero issues with it and it currently has over 80k miles only thing to look out for is if you find a good deal on one with higher mileage make sure the timing belt/water pump has been done it's required at about 105k miles and it's over $1000 for the service. These have an interference engine which means valves will be bent if timing belt fails.

I would suggest getting a 2016+ model as it received an upgrade from the 2014-2015 models. They upgraded the SHAWD system(which i think it's the best AWD system out there) used a new 9 speed transmission instead of the 6 speed tranny in the 2014-2016 system and make sure you get the tech or advanced package.

Also the MDX does have an awesome forum like this one here for the Tundra.

My brother got the infinity qx60 which does have a nicer fit and finished interior layout but it's way under powered with their engine I think.

Try and push for the MDX my wife is a mini van hater and did think that MDX sorta resembled a minivan as well but she got over it because she loved the way it drives and handles.

When you said there is a budget of $30K, why pay the premium on the Acura, Lexus and Land Rover brands? Name alone consumes 15% of your budget, plus premium fuel requirements lurk here...besides there are options that provide as much or potentially more capability.

We looked at everything (Acura, Rover, Infiniti, Lexus) and at the time, my wife liked the '14 Highlander Limited AWD the best....paid cash new and wife still loves it and had enough cash left over to buy me a new Tundra Limited;). My folks just bought a '18 Pilot AWD and it seems to be nice.

Oh, that lifted Sequoia with the larger wheels requires enroute tanker refueling services to get anywhere...OMG!

I can not stand to lose money.
It’s all about the value with me :D I watch our money like a hawk, and have actually made money on purchasing autos, driving them for years, and reselling.
Auto’s 99% of the time depreciate.
A $80K landcruiser, although has a nice resale, will depreciate $30K if I put 80K miles on it over 4 years. That’s a little over $7K a year loss.
My last Lexus cost me $1,800 a year to drive over 5-6 years.
My wife’s Pathfinder, I’m almost positive after we sell, will cost us $1,600 a year to drive over 5-6 years.
Out last 4runner I was paid to drive $450 a year for 10 years LOL.
The 4runner prior to that was $1,000 a year to drive.

After we decide which vehicle to go with, I usually spend 4-6 months on the hunt as well. A few people think I’m crazy for all of the research and time I put into it, but a lot of people ask me for help when purchasing.

The Highlander/Pilot she just has no interest in. I think she feels it will age her lol (no offense to anyone). Anything with Rover name will not be allowed to sit in my driveway! LOL.

Haven’t seen any MDX owners that hate them - that’s a good thing LOL.

This sounds exactly like me. Fanatical about saving money with cars and even making money to drive them. I made money on a Tacoma and two 4runners.

Yes sir. It also works out because I’m mechanically incluned for the most part. Also not shy about the purchasing and selling process. I don’t entirely understand, but many people do not like to sell/buy 3rd party. It’s kind of a fun game to me LOL :D

What’s the residual/resale on the Acura? I’d have to think it is less than a Toyota or Lexus.

Interesting. I thought Tundras were higher. Maybe a Tundra isnt a good comparison to a crossover SUV though - I dunno. Not that that this is relevant to your situation but when we bought a certified Highlander a few years ago it seemed comparable trim Highlanders to Pilots (similar year and mileage) were about $2 or $5k more. And now trying to trade in a Subaru Forester, same trim and vintage RAV4’s seem to be worth about $2k more.
