I've seen this mount in a couple of others threads a while back, and it seems to be the most straightforward option. Ordered this morning.. Thank you! :hattip:

Will this harness be compatible if I swap to a new headunit in the future?

Yes. As long as you use a plug and play adapter set for your aftermarket head unit, the FRAC Harness will be 100% compatible.

Have a Garmin backup camera installed in the front grill and wirelessly connected to a Garmin GPS unit. Works well, though the view is reversed (left/right).

The car is used overseas and the built in GPS maps are not compatible.

If you're using the Natika camera and that plate on a TRD Pro Grill, you have to shim the camera out to clear the grill. Details are in my build thread here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/rainmans-2021-lunar-rock-trd-pro-build.77317/page-7#post-2061039

Ignore the fact I used a different brand harness, because I JUST pulled the trigger on Lou's harness about 10 minutes ago. After repeated times tearing my dash apart for various things, this last time I noticed 1) the "ABC" harness had a couple spots where the wire had been folded over just past splice/heat shrink and the insulation on the wire was actually damaged through at those spots, and 2) my front camera is no longer working - regardless of switch position the reverse camera comes on and the light in the switch for the front camera position never turns on...so either the trigger wire is sending the reverse signal but not actually triggering the relay to switch to front camera, or the relay itself is bad. Either way, I don't feel like troubleshooting all of it (and would like to add the VIM function), so I went ahead and just ordered the FRAC. I'll be updating my build thread appropriately once I get the harness and get it installed.

I'm giving you a hard time... I was planning on carving a piece a rubber stall mat to shim the camera out a bit.

I've got a FRAC harness from 2021 that was before the pre-wired illumination wires for the OEM style switch (which I also have). Does anyone know which wires from the harness I can tap into to get this?

    Thank you

    Steve

PS Finally getting to installing my harness after 18 months :)

Hey, I'd recommend that you PM Lou directly for a faster answer... I asked him the same question, and short answer is that it's not difficult to do, just very delicate since the wires are so small (that is if you're looking to have the dimming feature w/the backlight). If you're just looking for illumination, it's much less intrusive as your just pairing up a couple of wires w/other wires. However, doing illumination in this manner will ONLY give you backlighting at the brightest setting on the switch LEDs. So, depending on where you mount it could be a bit annoying.

For me, I chose to go w/o the backlight because the switches are in a position that does not require me to reach for them or hunt around for them on the dash/console area.

    Hope that makes sense

In the meantime (later tonight), I'll dig for the email he sent me w/the switch schematic identifying the specific wires you'd be dealing with. But, I'd still confirm w/Lou that the info he gave me matches your set-up before modifying the harness if you're looking to have a dimmable back-light feature!

Thank you. I'm going to be putting the switch down low in front of the center console so if the dimming doesn't match it wouldn't be a big factor.

The Illumination lines are in the 30-pin connector. Pin 15 is ILL+ and Pin 16 is ILL-. The diagram below shows the pin locations viewing the female-pin connector from the pin-side.

The harness wires are pretty thin so you can't really use the clip on taps, however you can tap the two illumination lines by soldering a tap line into them. This is a delicate mod because the wires are so thin, but it's fairly easy to do if you have some experience soldering. If not, I would get help from someone who does or not attempt the mod. So proceed at your own risk.

IMPORTANT! This is for the 2020+ harness only. The 2014-2019 illumination wires are in two separate connectors that are not interfaced with the FRAC Harness.

Switch lights up to whichever camera I select and when put in reverse the rear indicator light illuminates.

Check all connections? None at all prolly means a wiring issue behind head unit.

I wonder if an improper ground could possibly cause this? I unhooked the harness and put the factory harness back in the head unit and the rear camera works.
Guess I’d better check the ground

Maybe one of the rca connections were switched. I remember when I did mine there was some uncertainty in the instructions for 2 of them. Figured it was a 50/50 shot and I guessed right the first time.

    Appreciate the replies and ideas.
Tried switching the RCA’s to no avail, checked my ground wires and all the connections.
The only one that has me kinda thinking is the 28 pin connection from the Frac into the head unit, extremely hard to connect and it doesn’t really seem to snap in like the 30 pin one does.
I even quadruple checked to make sure I didn’t have the 28 pin in the wrong place.
I had to button it up for the night since I have work tomorrow, so I think I’ll watch some football do some more research and try to figure out what I did wrong.
    Thanks again.

@Devdog86 when you say no cameras at all, does that include the rear cam when switching into reverse? Does the HU display remain the same or does it go black when using the F/R camera select switch? I designed the FRAC harness to be failsafe, so that even if the FRAC fuse is blown you will still get the rear camera in reverse gear. So if you are not getting the rear camera and the screen is not going black, then the problem is most likely one of the connectors not being all the way inserted.

The video signals go through the 30-pin connector. In an earlier post you mentioned that the indicator light on the switch comes on when shifting into reverse? If this is happening, then the 28-pin connector is properly connected, because that's the connector containing the reverse signal and trigger. So if I interpreted everything you said properly, I would look at the 30-pin connections more carefully to make sure they are tightly connected to both the vehicle harness and the head unit.

Please keep me posted. We'll get it figured out.

    Lou

Thank You for a great product and customer service. Everything is working great and your suggestion was spot on.
@MadMaxCanon thanks for taking time out to help troubleshoot as well.
The only change I will most likely make is the location or angle of the camera since it’s a little too high for my liking.

One of the wires on the back of the 30 pin connector appeared to be coming out the back (most likely user error on my part, I started rushing because I had to go back to work on Sunday) so I pushed it back in and connected everything back together and like magic I had cameras.

On a side note and a reminder to everyone and I could be wrong about this but it seems like too much of a coincidence. When I was working my problem I didn’t disconnect the battery, now everything worked just fine but I went for a quick ride and it was getting dark out and my dash lit up like a Christmas tree with a pre-collision system trailer brake error, I unhooked the battery and let it set for about 15 minutes or so and all errors are gone. I think it’s possible that due to disconnecting and reconnecting the head unit without disconnecting the battery possibly had something to do with it, it honestly slipped my mind. Another thing I’m kinda thinking may have caused it is my Ultimate9 throttle controller, I should have went with the Banks, live and learn I guess.

I can’t say enough good things about Lou @TundraTex and his customer support for helping me get through a few hiccups I was having, always responded with questions and clear suggestions.
I would highly recommend the FRAC harness without hesitation.

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. As of a few days ago, when I turn the truck on and go in reverse, the rear camera screen is black but I see the light for the rear on on the switch. I shift into reverse a second time and it works but there's black horizontal lines and it flickers for a few seconds. After that it works fine if I reverse again. Both cameras work perfectly with the manual switch and while moving.

I'm having a problem with my rear camera after I use the switch. Sometimes it will be a black screen in both modes. It usually comes back by rocking the switch between front and rear and get horizontal lines at first. If the lines do appear I can put the tranny in R and the picture clears and works fine until I select ft camera. I have a new switch coming hoping that's the problem.

Let me know how it works out. I'm doubting the switch just because it works fine while I'm driving....
