So... this is what my cap looks like. I can't get anything under the lip to pry it out and I don't want to destroy it because I can't seem to find a new one to buy. And every video I've watched has a cap that is different than this.

Well... just found out O'Reilly has the bearing and hub assembly for only 96 bucks. But still can't find that damned cap!

That’s why it looks different than from the videos you’ve seen. I’ve never witnessed a 2WD Tundra in person here in Canada.

Figured as much. I found some that say they are for 2WD, but they only have drawings so I can't tell if it's the right one or not. I found one that has a picture that looks like it, but that one is 2 3/4 inch.... mine is only 1, maybe one and 1/14.

UGH.... why me all the time? LOL

I'm beginning to wonder if the other type cap might fit it. Maybe the one I have is no longer used. Hmmm... wonder if I can find the other one and find out the size of it and maybe try it.

Problem is...I can't have the truck down for even a day right now, so I definetly need something to replace it if I destroy it.

Really appreciate the diagram. The problem there is I can't really tell from the drawing if that's the same thing. That's part of the problem I'm running into. Can't find one to order that has a picture of it, or the dimensions.

Might just take a chance and order this one and see.

    Thanks!

    It’s the part you need.

When I go to a parts site to order that I get a message that it doesn't fit my truck and they suggest this (which by the drawing I can't tell if it is correct or not)

And if I look that number up on toyodiy it doesn't find it.

That’s the cap that goes on the back side of the knuckle, it does cover the bearing and abs sensor.

Thanks for solving that part of the mystery for me. At least now I know that drawing is definetly not the one I need. I need the outer one.

But every parts site, except toyodiy, says that one doesn't fit my truck.

I messaged one seller and asked if he can get me the diameter of that outer one that is shown in the diagram. That'll give me a better clue.

So.. another stupid question. Can I replace just the bearing assembly using the old hub? This is what O'Reilly sold me and it looks to me like it's just the bearing assembly.

Well.... finally got around to changing the hub/ bearing today.

Played hell to get that darned dust cap off. Finally used a dremel tool to cut slices in it to get it out. Glad I bought a new one before I started.

Low and behold though...I didn't need to pull that freaking cap out! There is nothing under it! I could have pulled the assembly with that cap on! From videos I watched I thought I had to pull it to get to the axle nut and remove it to get the hub off.... but nope.

Anyhow... humming/grinding is totally gone. Nice quiet drive once again.
