I noticed I was losing around 3 to 4 quarts of oil between changes after 45000 miles . I mentioned that to the dealer they had to change the oil and do an oil consumption test after 1000 miles . They did the test today , 4 quarts low ?! They added 4 quarts and said to come back in another 1000 . Has anyone else had this issue ? 56,500 on the truck now .

If there isn't a leak you should be worried about bad rings. That's one of the main reasons for oil loss. There is only 5.9 quarts so 3-4 is a massive amount and bound to be causing additional damage.

yep bank account is running low from it..
Op do you see any leaks under the truck? Does it smoke any when starting up cold?

I will agree with csuviper on bad rings.... What i would do in a engine compression and look at the health of the engine...

There are no leaks . The exhaust pipe has black soot like a diesel . It's still under warranty just wondering what they will do to fix it ? They said to bring it in every 1000 miles and they would fill the oil until 60,000 miles ...lol !

I tried synthetic 0 - 20 and regular 5-20 same issue . I use it for work , a lot of max towing maybe I pushed it to hard ?

Yea the oil is getting past the rings. I would push them to do something more about it.

How much did you tow? Well, they did tow a spaceshuttle so as long as you didn't tow anymore then that I'm going to say you're good.

In reality, I don't think that towing over the limit would do it. I would think the tranny would go first unless you had the thing redlined all the time. I would go tell toyota to do new engine. I don't really trust dealerships so you might want to make them do it now before they try to pass the blame.

I have a 2007 DC 5.7 4X4 and I just changed my oil this past weekend at 60,000 miles. I use Mobil 1 5w20 and mine does not use any oil between changes, every 5,000 miles. Oh, that engine takes 7.4 quarts with a new filter.
To heck with this oil test BS. Get your dealer to fix it it, period. For a 2011 to use oil like that and still be under warranty is definitely a problem.

I have to bring it in for a 2nd consumption test before they will fix it . ? They still won't say what the fix is . I just hope it doesn't run out before I get back . I really like the truck other than the oil BS .
