Hello! My father-in-law has a 2009 Tundra TRD 2WD that recently had some rodent get into the engine bay and chew through some wiring. I'm looking around for a new wiring harness and I have a few questions:

    1. Do I have to get a wiring harness from a 2009, or can any 2nd gen work?
    2. I found a 2009 wiring harness from a 4x4 version off the truck, will that work?

    Thanks!

Check the build link in my signature.
Years can matter, as there were rolling changes through different groups of years that may or may not affect the engine bay wiring harness. Additionally, which engine he has will be important (v6, 4.7l v8, 5.7l v8, flex fuel or not) and I’m willing to bet 4wd/2wd may also have differences. Even cab configuration (crewmax, double cab, or regular cab) may matter.

I’m on my phone at the moment, so I can’t really run a search on the parts site for engine bay wiring harnesses to see how many different part numbers show up.

Personally for me the harness would have to be cut completely in half or really really damaged.

Much easier option is probably to repair the damage depending on how bad.

I was going to say this exactly. Solder iron, solder, extra wire, heat shrink, electrical tape, and a ton of patience. May be faster than waiting and looking for a similar one.
