Preparing for Stage 1. I found some good takeoff 295/70-18 Dick Cepak Extreme Countrys for a good price locally. I’ll take pictures tonight when I pick them up. I will also be adding adjustable shackles in the rear.

Stage 1.5: *Stereo as funds permit.

Stage 2: Fabricate custom bumpers and bed rack.

Stage 3: After the factory shocks die I’ll be upgrading to some Bilsteins as well as adding sway bar disconnects.

I had the tires mounted and decided to test fit them pre-lift.

With the removal of the factory mudflaps and trimming the skid plate they clear everywhere with no rubbing.

I pulled the factory bumper to start planning my custom one.

Then I copied the mounting plates using 1/4” plate.

I’m excited to get back to it tomorrow.

More progress. I bought a universal winch mount for the main body. Then templated the center wings which I plasma cut. Next up is boxing the rest in then bending tubing for the corners. I’m loosely copying the C4 Fab hybid bumper.

It ended up being a pretty productive 24hrs.

    - Installed new headunit with charging and input cables routes to phone cradle.
    - Prewired for amp and sub
    - Swapped broken cigarette lighter for USB charging port
    - New Interstate battery
    - Sandblasted/painted battery tie-down
    - All new exterior window seals
    - Synthetic oil change
    - New cabin air filter
    - Buffed out some touched up paint spots

I’ve managed to make a little more progress on the bumper. I’ve been extra busy with moving my Mother in-law into the new place we bought for her.

Finished the top portion of the wings just as it started to rain. I really need to clear out my shop. Too many projects.

Getting pretty stoked on this bumper!

When I get paid for my next 2 jobs I’m buying a tubing bender. Then I’ll make the hoop.

Woodward Fab (JD2 clone). Lots of dies available at reasonable prices.

Looks great so far. How satisfying were those window mouldings to install? I just did mine recently too, not sure why previous owner didn't do them sooner but thankfully no rust at all inside the door.

Thanks! I was really glad they are so easy to replace. I was concerned the inner door panels had to come out and I wasn’t in the mood for that. Pretty painless.

Here’s the bumper so far in 2 coats of metal primer.

My tubing bender arrived so I had to make a stand for it. I’ll use the bender to make my hoop and hoop supports.

It’s ramping up to be a very busy Summer. Lots of trips, yard plans, and shop projects.

Finally took a day to get a start on the bed rack which I really should’ve done before the front bumper.

    Oh well.

First thing I did was make bed tracks from Uni-Strut.

then I fab’d up some 1/4” plate for mounts. Overkill, but what I had laying around. I milled slots for the bolts so that the weight of the rack sits entirely on the top of the bed while the track just keeps it in place.

Next up is picking up tubing and finalizing the design.

Check engine lights are off and limp mode is gone! Secondary air injection system officially by-passed.

    Onto more exciting things…

I grabbed another stick of 2 inch round tubing for my front bumper hoop. A little math and a few bends later and I have this mocked up.

I got a real start on my bed rack this week. I still need to come up with a good method of securing the removable rear cross bar and add any accessory tiedowns I may want before primer.

After a long break from working on my truck I got a rear high-clearance bumper started. Brackets cut on my new CNC Plasma Table. 1/4” plate, 2x.120” and 1.75x.120 tubing.

I plan to plate the top of the bumper and trim the bed-sides to meet up with it.

    Thank you!

Here’s the top plate cut out. I’ll have to get some more pictures now that it’s complete and mounted. I used a dimple die to make the holes into tread.

I figured I should move my build page here from New Member Introductions.

    https://www.tundras.com/threads/2008-sr5-work-play-truck-project.79684/

Above is a link to my progress so far.
The quick and dirty is I’ve swapped the steelies for factory alloys on 35s, I welded up a prerunner-ish hybrid front winch bumper, tint, aftermarket headunit, DIY bed tracks with traction board mounts, 2” cab-height tubular bed rack, OEM style accessory switches for the lightbar, fogs, and ditch lights, as well as rubber floor liners.

Next steps are side exit exhaust in front of rear axle, correct size spare, and possible winch

I’m currently priming the rear bumper I made.

I should be ordering my Bilstein 6112s within the next week. I plan on top setting with a drivers side shim. I’m just looking for level, maybe 1” in the rear.

Any thoughts on block vs. shackle?
