2006 Tundra eats alternators

    Last year my alternator was outputting about 9 VDC. I replaced it with a new alternator and installed a new drive belt, also.

    Now about a year later I again have low voltage and need to jump start it. Identical symptoms as last year.

    What's up?

    Did you use OEM/Denso parts? The quality of 3rd party brands has seriously gone down the shitter in the last decade or two, and forget about reman units from those brands.

    Did you make the mistake of ordering your parts from scAmazon or fleaBay? They're well-known at this point for being a source of Bs counterfeit parts, it's rampant and no way to easily protect yourself.

    I’ve noticed that rebuildable parts like brake calipers, alternators and starters have been of poor quality lately. As in, bad out of the box, no QC. Which sucks when your chasing a problem and think you’ve eliminated a cause and are working down the list. I second the battery cables and ground points. Big 3 upgrade. Highly recommend.

    2” Lift, Bilstein 5100’s and 885’s, Rear 5100’s Icon 3 Leaf Pack and Firestone Air Bags with Daystar Cradles. Spider Trax 1.25” Wheel Spacers, Factory Wheels wrapped with Toyo 285/70r17 AT2’s.
    I had a bad battery cable at about 240k. Was corroded inside the wire casing.

    When I got the truck it had an autolite reman alternator. It went out around 260k.

    I bought a reman denso from a local mom and pop store for $200. Toyota only sells remans and they were $450.

    Denso has been working perfect. Solid 14v all the time.

    You're talking about the alternator, or the starter? ;)

    I just put over 2000 miles on a Denso reman from RockAuto. 14v+ whenever the engine is running; pretty sure it will hold up.

    Where are you measuring voltage? (At the battery terminals? At the alternator positive post?)
