Yeah, that was more towards the 2.5 gen. My buddy's 08 is about the same as mine. Just a few more electronics.

Very true. Also, a rcsb 2nd is a rare sight. I think I saw one once. I've seen more 1st gens than 2nds. Is it even an option anymore?

My 1st gen is a RCLB... my 2nd gen is a RCSB.
I love both of them for some of the same, and some different reasons.

Well, I'm keeping the 2020 and selling the 2006.

I always thought my 2006 still felt pretty tight for having 245,000 miles but, no, it's not as tight as my 2020. Not by a long shot. I definitely would not say that the 2006's ride is more refined than the 2020.

The 2006 feels smaller and that's not a bad thing, I actually prefer it. I also prefer the way the 2006 looks compared to the 2020. When my 2006 was still young, I detested the rise of the big "boxy" trucks that was happening all around. Here I am now in a big boxy 2020 and that is the one thing I don't like but am prepared to just get used to it.

Mine are both RCLB and they are both great.
I think the RCLB was killed off in 2017?

It took considerable hunting to find my 2015 just the way I wanted it but I have nothin but LOVE for it for sure!
One of the best differences is the cavernous space behind the seats compared to the 2001,I am amazed at how much stuff I can store back there really.

The newer one feels more powerful but I am not sure that it really is,like Rex said the 1st Gen is really a more polished ride and finish all around despite being older and the in between size has been just right for me for a long time and I am having a hard time with the complete "Hugeness" of the 2015!

Home Depot parking lots keep getting stripped for smaller cars and it is not an easy parking challenge any more and then I have to get the giant door open without smacking the cars too close every single time.

I dont think one is really better than the other but it is more what you want in a truck overall.
I could be entirely happy in either but I like having Both too!

I always refer back to a few buddies comments over the years when knocking Turd Gen. The list is long, but they sound like the section comments over there always complaining. This is what my buddies have stated. I would never say anything bad about their trucks and really don’t care. Here is what they say:

    1) Squeaks on cheap interior driving them nuts (Rock Warrior 2012).

    2) Needs Sway Bar (2009 5.7). Cheap plastic interior. Seats suck. Gas Mileage.

    3) Taco shifting sucks. Underpowered. Small when compared to 1st Gen even though ‘same size’.

    4) ‘Lack of Technology’. Me: Isn’t that what the phone is for?

    5) OEM Sound System in 1st Gen is better than the 2018. Not saying much, but just repeating what they say.

My observations: They are too big and heavy and lack Payload Capacity. Seats uncomfortable. Sand driving is awful due to weight where 1st Gen Floats over sand without air downs. The 5.7 is very nice.

One buddy called me a ‘truck nerd’ (2 years ago) like those guys on Tundra website due to me working so much on the 2002 getting her back in shape. Was over at his house the other day and the guy had just put on his 2018 Tundra a stubby antennae and 5100’s ‘leveled’ with AT tires. Who is the nerd now?

When it comes to the back seat, the first gen double cab has more room between the kids and the front seats than the 2nd/3rd gen DC. The Crew Max has more room in the same area than the first gen DC. The important things when you have kids.

I know I'm churning up an old post... But the having kids part is what sold me on the 1st gen double cab tundra. I wanted at least a 6ft bed and plenty of room for the kids (almost teens) and dog. You can't get that in a second gen Tundra. The backseat of double cab was a little small, the crew cab is a 5.5ft bed. 1st gen DC hits that sweet spot. I'm coming from a Tacoma and the 4.7 is just right. Not towing anything

    I had a Gen 1 DC, 2005.
I raised 2 kids in it with no issues.
With the bench front seat, I could fit 6 adults in it..:eek2:

    I have a 2014 DC now, pretty close to a Gen 2.
It fits my needs now that the kids are grown.
I can fit 4 or 5 adults in my 2014, but it's a little tighter than my 2005.
99% of the time it is just me in this truck.

The new Gen 3 DC looks like a Gen 1 access cab...:eek2::cool:

I have a 06 Double Cab, and it's a great size for having 2 kids. They both fit in the back no problem, and my wife can sit back there with them.
