Everyone has different uses for their trucks. I personally dont tow and if i did need to i am sure my 1st gen would handle that

I purchased my 01 with 36k mi for $21k 3 years ago. These prices don't surprise me tbh.

That's Insane and just wrong to try and sell something that old for that much. Hopefully no one is dumb enough to fall for that. Pandemic or not there isn't any way no matter how good of condition or mods it has that is way too much.

List off some vehicles with comparable features, size, power and longevity priced at or below it. I have no doubt you can find one or two vehicles that meet 3 of the 4. Also, some that meet 2 of the 4. But I doubt you'll find something at that price point with 4 of 4.

If what you say is accurate, something that old shouldn't cost that much, I should be able to go out and buy a '67 Camaro or '63 Impala with a few thousand miles on it for just a few grand. No? Exactly. It's not about the age...

The buyer apparently didn't believe it was wrong or overpriced.

Let me know when you're selling your truck and house and everything else you own. I'm willing to give you zero for it all so we'll both he happy. Win-win.

    I just keep relating back to new truck prices . . . a friends employee just bought a crew cab Tacoma . . . $45K !
IMO a well maintained Gen 1 Tundra is a great way to go if it fits your needs.
The amount of initial out of pocket expense is quite a lot on a new truck. On the flip-side, registration and insurance is considerably less on an older truck. Depreciation has already done it's thing for the most part. Other than typical maintenance items, I don't see much that has 'gone-out' solely due to age on these reliable trucks. None of these trucks are that great on gas, so you can't factor in much fuel savings.

The one sold on Bring a Trailer is kind of an exception, someone REALLY wanted that truck. From what I see looking around, sub 100K mile Gen-1's are listed somewhere between $14K - $20K . . . what they actually sell for is another story. The market is so skewed right now, it's hard to draw any solid conclusions. But from my point of view, it all comes back to the cost of new in a time of uncertainty. More people are hanging on to what they have, and that's partially driven up the pricing.

IMO the Gen 3 Tacoma is awful. If you've driven one then you know just how poor the driving experience can be. The problem with the Gen 3 Taco is that its powertrain is sluggish, the efficiency is not that good, payload and towing are dismal for the segment, and the 2nd row in the double cab is not suitable for an adult. The pros about the Gen 3 Taco is the resale value, huge aftermarket support and it's quite nimble on the trail due to size. Since cars only seem to grow in size I really hope the next gen Tacoma is similar in size to a first gen Tundra. IMO the FGT strikes a perfect balance between size, interior space and bed length. With the V8 in there it's kind of a unicorn.

Been searching for about 2 years now trying to find a 00-03 fgt to get into. Had and sold a 2000 a few years back and currently in a bloated 2019 Tunny. Bad choice. I’d pay up to $25,000 for a new used fgt in good original shape.

Sounds a bit expensive. After 2 months of obsessively checking auto trader, cars.com, craigslist and car guru daily, I bought a 2005 DC Limited for $24,900 with 79k miles & it was babied and kept in a garage. That was also from a Toyota dealer.

I say keep looking. but you won't be disappointed if you pull the trigger!

I've said it several times . . . you can't get much in the 'new/newer' market for $25K . . . the FGT's tick a lot of the right boxes, especially reliability/longevity. Sure, before this whole virus non-sense you could've got a truck like that for well below $20K . . . it just took this ridiculous market and the increased cost of living for people to have a reality check.

A couple of things that might help are to constantly search where these trucks might be listed for sale, CL, FB marketplace, OfferUp, and even this site's 1st Gen for sale finds thread. It helps to always be on the hunt and ready to make a deal quick. Truly good deals are often missed because they're gone so fast. Also word of mouth, put it out there to anyone you might know that has one, or knows somebody that does. Good luck, I'll keep an eye out and give you a shout if I find anything good.

I don't know if I could spend that kind of money to own a vehicle knowing that some parts are now obsolete with no replacement in site.

That would mean I'd have to place a lot of calls and emails to salvage yards across the U.S. just to find a replacement.

It's something I'd consider for a popular vintage vehicle with a huge aftermarket, but not so much an unpopular one.

Agreed. It's an early year model, access cab and 2wd. I still think getting $17k for that truck is great for the seller. I'm glad I got my 06 DC 4WD Limited with only 83k miles on it for not much more.

It seems this dealer is not a member of our forum. Or maybe he left off the 1 in front of the 8??

Lots of good deals show up on the san antonio craigslist. Down to $6k or so. And south texas trucks dont rust.
