I'm tired, it's late and I'm done with rabbit holes. I have a 2005 tundra and I had to replace a part on my truck today and went to the junkyard, found a toyota keyless entry fob and thought hey... I've seen where you can program a truck and set the key yourself so... I tried and... it didn't work (I don't know if the key has any battery left) but the truck won't enter pairing mode; I've tried both methods for my model of truck. Where can I look to see if I have the module I need for keyless entry and has anyone else had this issue? I've been allover the net and finally registered an account here. I don't really want to ask toyota... I'm sure they would love to get at least a benjamin out of me. Thanks for any info.

If that means what I think it does, you're not sure if you even have keyless remote ? If so...
So ... you wanna buy / just bought a 1st Gen Tundra, eh?

Once you've registered an account, on the pull down menu's look for Vehicle-Specifications or select this link.... Vehicle Specification (toyota.com)

Among other useful info, there is an entry on your Veh Specs if you even have keyless. As an example, mine is listed as seen below...

    Keyless.jpg

Once determined if you even have remote We can then help you look for the module unit under dash.

BTW....what is the FCC ID numbers on back of remote you found or a picture would be great. That is one way to determine if the remote you found would even work on a keyless remote system if indeed you have one.

It took me at least a half a dozen tries to go through the laundry list of commands to enter the TVIP system for programming the 1st time. Even now, it usually takes me 2-3 tries, and there's a lot of misinformation on the internet. The timing and order of everything is usually what bites me in the ass.

I'm quite certain the 2005, 2006 (maybe 2004 also?) trucks came with the RS3200 system. The "Anti theft system" is just the "plus" add-on where you get the glass break sensor in the dash, which is something any owner can add-on later if the part isn't discontinued.

You'll know when you enter programming mode. Seriously, check the thread @BubbaW linked you too, as a new owner you need to read it, and you'll find the OEM programming documents in there. Use those instead.

I did register to toyota.owners this is what it says... I'm just surprised if my truck is one of the only ones that doesn't have keyless ability from the factory.

So I've performed both variations of the door/key sequences (about a dozen times... or more) for my year of truck and I haven't gotten any response from the truck, I'm guessing either their is a wire that I'll have to connect or buy the module or... just wait and buy a remote start and have it installed by a technician at my local bestbuy or powerplant shop.

The FCC ID for the fob you pictured is for a Corolla. I don't believe that it will work with the RS3200. Further, given that your "as built" config does not show the keyless entry system you may have a 3rd party aftermarket system (if any at all).

Doesn't even look like a Toyota remote to me.

@Falconflyer27 didn't bother to give us his cab type which is super important also. Some of the double cabs used the immobilizer keys which may ultimately be an issue for OP when it comes to remote start. Actually, I think remote start is just a bad idea in general (as a former installer), but I'll keep my opinions to myself on that one. Nothing I'm gonna, none of my war stories is going to sway someone's opinion if they're convinced it's what they want.

So... when I went to the junkyard for a part I needed, I looked in a sienna (I believe it was and only for curiosity to see wether it used the same blower fan motor as the tundras do) and saw the fob (a toyota fob) and this little fob is what has started this fantastic annoying journey of trying to fulfill a longing I've had now, for awhile to possess the ability to unlock my truck, without inserting a key in the keyway a thousand times a year.

I'm willing to listen and learn... what is your opinion and experience with remote start? I've just thought it would be nice to start it on cold mornings or hot days a few moments before getting into my truck; you know, the kind of thing a first world person would think about doing;) ... and also if I need to pay some amount of money for keyless remotes or capability why not opt a little higher for an "equity building" feature for the truck?

The shop I was working for installed mostly Avital and Clifford. Both are great quality companies.

The lifespan of an aftermarket alarm (which remote start falls under, to me) these days is maybe 6-10 years. Used to be more like 10-15, but electronics are more cheaply made these days IMO. That's not saying they won't die faster or last longer, but it's speculative. And when they go, the symptoms can be really weird. Like, car just randomly won't start. Door window/lock controls randomly won't work. Symptoms that are confusing and you'd be liable to blame bad OEM components, hard to debug.

Who you have install and is crucial and what brand they install is really important also. I've seen some real rats nests, with scotch-locks and t-taps galore, or even worse, wire nuts or electrical tape. If you go through with it, you really don't want to have the local Best Buy install things. Go to a specialty shop. Inspect the work after.

I'll see if I can take pics of my unit later, where it is up under the dash. Pretty sure the module is up above the air vent, between the gas pedal and radio/center dash. I jotted down once that the TVIP ECU part number was 89730-YY120 and is good for 2003-2006 Tundra.

Posting this to potentially help other frustrated Key FOB programmers... I have a 2005 double-cab and was not successful in programming a factory FOB (HYQ12BBX). I tried all three sequences that seem to be on the internet. This morning I finally had success with the 5 lock/unlock, door close-open, 5 lock/unlock method. My theory on why I was unsuccessful previously and then had success this morning is: I think on previous attempts my driver's door lock wasn't actuating all the way on some of the lock/unlock cycles. It is a 20 year old car and probably needs some graphite in the locking mechanism to work perfectly. I manually pushed the lock back and forth while cycling the lock/unlock button at the same time and the FOB programmed perfectly. Hope that helps your trouble-shooting if you're having similar problems.

I tell a lot of folks on here this, and even mention it above. After all the times I've done this, it's always the timing (cadence or rhythm) of the actions required that bite me in the ass every time. It's when I force myself to slow down, and do one action per second, with consistent spacing between steps, that it seems to work. Sadly, it still usually takes me several tries to get it just right. I'm sure it's hella easier just to use Techstream.

Hi All, jumping in here as I just programmed two new remotes from Tom’s Keys for my 2005 Tundra DC. This method worked for me…

Hope this helps anyone who’s frustrated in the future!

    Welcome to the forum!

With DC and Sequoia, you've gotta be cautious. There are three different sets of programming instructions (potentially 4), 2 of which are different for DC and Sequoia, depending whether or not you have keyless provided by the BCM, or TVIP. If through the BCM, IIRC, you may also have immobilizer. There's potentially a 3rd option, some OEM+ groups like SET (Southeast Toyota Dealers LLC) provided an add'l fob option with a similar remote that's wider, with the LED being a square thing to the left of the buttons. Some dealers also added aftermarket alarm systems to trump the factory keyless (KARR, SECURIKEY+).

The known programming instructions (including earlier AC/RC models) are in this thread under the "Electrical stuff ... and keys" section. It includes both DC/Sequoia instructions (for BCM-based and TVIP RS3200), and AC/RC instructions (for RS3200 and RS3000), including links to download the programming manuals so you can reconfigure things like:
Only tossing this out there in case it's interesting. We put in a lot of work to flesh out the keyless info in that new-owner-sticky megathread, it's worthwhile to plug it.
