2002 ABS PROBLEM?

When I'm in dirt I sometimes even in the rain and I go to stop by brakes make a weird groaning sound and the pedal vibrates. Oh and did I mention when this happens, I have no brakes. If I apply the brakes real easy it doesn't happen but if your pulling over to the side of the road it almost always does it once the tires leave the pavement.
