Greetings, I have a 2001 Tundra TRD 4x4, access cab, 8cyl, new frame - I’m looking to lift it, better brakes, rims tires etc - Question: best parts/kits manufacturers? This is just a fun running around town truck/build - any thoughts & ideas appreciated, Thx

That thread has a whole section on lifts, tires, etc. with specific mention of brands we’ve had bad experience with on these trucks. Good luck!

He’s not saying we’ve had bad experiences with all brands. The thread lists good stuff and bad stuff.

That thread is basically all our community's knowledge dating back several years, compiled in one convenient place. There's an entire section in the 1st reply, "Suspension, wheel and tires ..." The first two replies are sectionized, dedicated to critical info, common issues and fixes, stuff to look out for, etc.

That suspension/wheel/tires section will tell you the quirks and limits with these trucks, what brands to avoid, what types of lifts to avoid, the most important things you need to think about. We put it together because nobody else could find a forum online that's got centralized, dedicated info for the 1st gen Tundra. This is ultimately why people are saying, "Go read that shit!" So... GO READ THAT SHIT!

If you go read it and still have questions, hit us up. I'd say at least 1/3 if not 1/2 of the really active members on this forum have lifted their truck and can give you the input you want. But we can't tell you shit, unless we know what you want. Like, do you want to just level the front? You want a 1" lift and 1" oversized tires? You want 2.5" lift and 1.5" oversized tires? Each has advantages and disadvantages. The stuff we're going to tell you for leveling your truck is wildly different from what you need for a 2.5" lift, one will cost you about 75% less $$.

If you want to go 4" plus and 35" tires, you picked the wrong truck unless you're ready to spend serious $$$ and are totally cool with hammering/cutting up your truck. At least, if you intend to do things the right way, the safe way.

To piggyback on this, we generally get 3 types of "new" members here on the 1st gen side:
    1) I bought a cheap truck that has lots of issues because it was neglected by the previous owners and I need help.
    2) I've seen some YouTube videos. I think Tundra's are cool. I bought one. Now I want to throw the parts cannon at it.
    3) I'm a genuine enthusiast who has had my truck for many years. I recently stumbled across this forum and it's been a big help for me. I'd like to contribute.

The great thing is, the MEGA THREAD is there to assist all of these types of folks. I've had my truck for 18+ years and I still search that thread on a regular basis.
