Since the horn can be activated on multiple points on the pad, and only certain points on the pad work when it works, has anyone ever seen the contact points inside the pad?

Also, ao another forum, people had mentioned that the horn actually grounds through a bearing on the column and that it can get corroded. Any merit to that?

Perhaps he misunderstand given the difference from each other

Anyway, perhaps you could call him back and ask him about unplugging black connector from clock spring and applying a gnd to the proper pin of the black connector causing horn to work.

Toyota would need to update all their 1st Gen FSM and EWD’s where they show clock spring/spiral cable/comb switch in all their drawings including trubleshooting where they state if horn don’t work, one possible item is clock spring :notsure:

Any thoughts on the shaft bearing being the horn ground and possible issue?

I personally haven't dug into things enough to be able to comment. This seems like one of those issues you'd need to dig into a bit deeper in-person to get a grasp on. I rarely ever use my horn, so any attempt to fix the issue would be purely cosmetic for me.

I just bought a 2001 Tundra about a month ago and just noticed the horn doesn't work. I checked both horns by disconnecting the wiring harness plug from the horn and jumpering the horn straight to the positive battery post which both worked fine when jumpered. The 20amp fuse is good, and the hazard lights work. I just changed the clock spring out, but the horn still isn't working. When I press down on the horn I can hear a click sound from the relay. Any ideals?

Update: Stumbled on the fact that if I pull the bottom of the steering wheel up and out towards me, the horn works perfectly as long as I maintain pressure. Release it and back to no or rarely horn working. Clock spring or ?

Sorry, Complete clock spring assembly is what you are recommending?

I think it’s probably the horn mechanism that I believe is integrated with the airbag assembly.
