Talk to them, let them woo you with their best. If its not for you then you've lost nothing but a little time.

As for the contract work, I love it but what I do is a little out of the ordinary. I go in for 3 months to a year, I work 60-90 hrs a week paid hourly until its done and then I take as much time off as I want. I travel, relax, hunt whatever.

The problem with that is they can and will say anything. Nothing said counts unless its in writing and they wont do that

Yeah, I feel like it's a bit early to ask as I've only been here about 3 months. But depending on what exactly they have me working on, I think it will make sense to ask when I have a couple months left on the contract.

Contract lineman is a pretty interesting deal. I’m currently on the co-op side of things but dragging up without notice is the norm. I’ve given a today notice and a 2 week notice. If it was a good outfit, and was on a good crew I’d give a notice. Just to not burn a bridge. At the same time in this line of work you can literally make a phone call and go to work. Or have an old foreman, or another lineman vouch and there’s a good chance your going to work. I try to keep a good name, just in case my co-op gig goes south and I need to go back on the road. That sums up the non union side. Union side pay your dues, and sign the books
