Man, that doesn't really look like a bumper to me. Just a few bars coming off the frame. Not a fan.

It’s hard too see with greater detail on my phone, but it looks like it attaches to the same front frame rails as the stock bumper. But yes, it’s a prerunner style bumper that uses tubing instead of plate like you see on some of the other bumper styles. Tubing can be stronger than plate, and prerunner tube bumpers are inherently lighter than plate, depending on the design of each. Of course this one, as most bolt-on prerunner bumpers, isn’t tied to a full cage like you would see on a dedicated prerunner truck, but then neither are the typically heavier plate-style bumpers, either.

It’s all moot, though. When I called back, I found out they’re out of stock and are too swamped to produce anymore at the moment. A shame since the tubing they use is DOM .120 wall, so it had the promise of being light but strong and functional. Oh well.

Actually in many ways, you want the bumper to absorb impact energy, as opposed to being “super strong and tough.”

Yes, absolutely. It’s another reason I prefer DOM tubing. It’s strong but should bend and absorb the impact as you say. I had an old Tacoma with a tube prerunner bumper that did just that when I accidentally hit a solid berm at around 40 mph. It bent a bit, absorbing and taking the impact instead of the frame. It also didn’t break, which could’ve resulted in it puncturing the radiator behind it.

Gen 2.5 Tundras have really bad partial overlap crash ratings. If you watch the videos the tire ends up hitting the driver/passenger. For a aftermarket bumper it was important to me to try and eliminate that issue with much more material there and why I went with a design like I did. Whereas the Wescott design would seem to have less protection in that style of crash and I’d be worried unless it was a majority offroad type of rig.

What kind of bumper did you go with and do you have any pics of it?

Oh for sure there are some in post #834. It’s a heftyfab aluminum bumper with a smaller loop. It weighs about 65lbs which is surprisingly light and close to the stock bumper weight.

Gotcha. Might want to edit post 834 to list the make and model of the bumper.

That’s a nice bumper. My google skills are severely lacking as I can’t find their website. Do you have a link to it?

I was looking at their Overland bumper, which looks kind of like CBI’s Baja bumper. Anyway, C4’s website says they’re offering sitewide free shipping, which sounds like a great deal. Which C4 and winch do you have?

Thanks! That's weird that their website doesn't show up when doing a search. Anyway, what a great looking bumper - low profile, minimalistic looking but protective, and extremely light to boot. It's somewhat more expensive than some other options I'm looking at (CBI, C4 and DeMello), but those are obviously much heavier.

Thanks! I was actually asking about Hefty Fab's website, but I appreciate the C4 link nonetheless as it's another bumper I'm interested in.

I’ve read lots of the posts in this thread, haven’t seen anything yet so I’ll just ask…anyone have knowledge on the Rough Country front bumper? Item code 10777
Pros, cons, updates, things to do differently etc. I’m looking more for light switch mods, I’ll have the fog lights wired up to factory switch. But not sure what I can do with the light bar switch to be more factory looking. I don’t have room on the lower left side of the steering wheel by the other buttons. Thanks for info

Do you have any open spots on the right side of the steering wheel or under the center console?

Nothing that looks like a factory spot to pop out a blank space for a switch. There’s room but it would be more of me cutting a hole in either one of those spots.

Aironboard is the closest match to the OEM dash color. You want a switch from the "Toyota small" series. Post pics of your dash. Unless you have stuff in all of your blanks, you have positions to put it in.

I looked on the air onboard but then widened my search just to see what was out there. I’ll take some pictures after work to send but I’m pretty sure there all full/ used up.

Yes pics will help. Unless your truck has alot of powered accessories on it, they shouldn't all be used. There is an option for a switch mount that mounts in the card slot in front of the console from @abomb60. I believe he is printing them again. PM him if interested. His stuff is legit...great guy to deal with.
