Everytime I see a heavily modded 3rd gen taco, I scream inside my head "you could've had all this for a fraction of the price of that!" Lol

My issue with the Chevy trucks I've driven at work on the highway isn't the power. Because its there. But the Chevy transmissions are trash. They hesitate shifting into drive and slip out of the gate. I have one I drive semi often that's got ~4k miles and the trans is already starting to slip and violently jolt if you don't wait about 3 seconds before you hit the gas after shifting into drive. But yeah, I prefer Toyota engine swaps and Toyota in general.

Last I spoke to him, he hadn't touched it in months. He had just finished 2jz swapping an old F100

I should learn to multi quote. Sorry OP :threadjacked:

Forgot fuel mileage. @TRDGen is correct, they do get about the same fuel economy in stock form.

This is my main beef. There were two ways things could go when the 700R4 went electronic, which IIRC was around the same time the GenIII engines came out: Could've gone for the better, or for worse. Somehow GM managed to 'go for worse' with the 4l60e on the majority of RWD vehicles and sometimes the 4l80e depending on the application. Basically, pairing a 120k mile (if babied) transmission and sticking it on a 200k mile GenIII engine.

I honestly don't think it's gotten any better in the last decade or two. The Achilles heel of GM RWD drivetrains has been the transmission, for years.

I'm no historian, so my timeline or details may be off, but that's my interpretation.

If it were an '05 or '06 (if they even came with the manual) then I'd go for it and not look back. And if you prefer to row gears and don't need to haul much I'd say go for it. But to your comment about towing and getting this as a commuter and then another truck to tow - pretty sure I'd pass on it.

Will say though the truck looks fantastic and will make someone an excellent truck!

I've driven the v6 manual T100 on many occasions. I find it very similar to the Tundra which I've only driven in that configuration twice.

Personally, I enjoy something with a little more power and shift range in 1st where I can really get it up to speed (over 30mph) before I drop it into 2nd and accelerate.

3.4 tundra manual and a t100 3.4 manual I think are identical drivetrain wise. Gear ratios and all. Except maybe the rear diff ratio

I've got an 03 V6 with the 5 speed manual, 2WD. I love it, like others have said it works great for commuting and light duty. I use the bed primarily for camping and for that it has more than enough power. But unfortunately MPG isn't great.

I very rarely see one around here anymore. The frames on those were just as bad as the FGT when it came to rust.

I still see T100's here in Tennessee occasionally but I see 1st Gen Tundras just about every day. Amazing how many are left down here where our roads rarely see salt.

@Warthogdrifter, did you end up getting it? If not, where is it? I would be very interested in it.

My previous truck was a 2003 Access Cab RWD Tundra. It had the 3.4 Liter V6 . . . although mine had an auto trans, I can say the motor was great. Very reliable, decent on gas, had lots of 'tork' and pulled my 15 foot boat through the desert at 65-70 mph w/ no problem, even with the AC on. I sold it to a friends son who is running it to this day closing in on 200K miles . . . he's had zero problems with it either.

4.0l v6 AC Tundras did exist. Mine was an 05 with the 6-speed manual trans. No tundra with the 4.0l and a manual came in 4wd. So i decided to LS it with a 6.0l / NV4500 5-speed / NP261 transfer case and a solid axle swap up front. Its still a work in progress but i plan on starting on it again next year and hope to get it done around May. (lead times on some of the parts are April, ie Fox coilovers)

Still a work in progress but the engine/trans/t-case are all mounted. Ordering parts now to finish off the build.

I would not hesitate on the regular cab longbed V6. For doing normal day to day stuff like mulch at Lowe's, firewood, etc., they are great. I have never felt like I needed more engine! Does have a small leak in the top of the front windshield I need to address, but that is it.[IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
