Saw a Cregssliss post lastnight for a 1993 Toy 4wd p/u (V6) in mint condition. Guy had a pic of the original sticker with 15-17mpg. Not much has changed on the mpg front, but we for sure have more power in the V8.

    2001 4x4 4.7 35x12.5 tires. I'm averaging about 17mpg, spend some time above 80mph everyday ;)

I wish I could give a good, clear answer but I have tinkered and swapped parts a lot. 1 thing I have learned, maf is an issue with these trucks. Cleaning it helped but not enough, I swapped it with the jet maf. I think over time the CPU has gotten better with that

Oh and the 4.56 gears helped

I think in general, my 02’ does way better when driving higher speeds on long distance trips. My last two trips averaged 18 and 17mpg, respectively. 285/75/r16

Around the city not so good. Engine is optimized and still has poor mpg. Just the nature of the beast.

That's why. Regearing seems to lead to great MPG for these trucks.

I’m getting 14 mpg in mixed driving in my XSP . My ‘05 Sequoia gets about 15 mpg mixed and 17 hyw. I’m kind of surprised my ‘05 Tundra gets worst than the Sequoia since it’s basically the same truck! I changed the plugs and cleaned the TBS shortly after I got it in October...I guess it is what it is!

When I first got the truck I was around 12-14 mpg, it ran smooth but not performing properly. A lot of reading here and my experience with Toyota's I've been able to get it running and performing tons better. Rebuilding the rear diff and going to 4.56 gears front and rear was huge leap in all categories on the performance of the truck, best $1,800 I've spent

Replaced fuel pump and filter, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, removed the k&n filter and intake cleaned it out and trashed the k&n filter, installed AEM dry cone filter, cleaned throttle body, installed jet maf. Started Lucas fuel system cleaner every oil change. Then of course flush transmission twice and new filter.
Gained a lot of ground with getting engine performance right, just took a while cause I also upgraded the front brakes, new everything in the back brakes and this list can keep going

After typing all that I am frustrated, I have to sell the truck. I didn't plan to sell it so I was trying to get it mechanically solid to run for the next 10 years or so.

The misses drives it every so often, she has trouble parking it. That's 1
We need a vehicle with a useable back seat, access cab back seat is not cutting it. That's 2
And of course, I found a '05 with 88k miles, crew cab that was pretty damn clean. At a very reasonable price.
So the '01 gotta go. Start all over again.

    Ah.

I never meant to sell my 93 toyota pickup either but then I had a kid and needed something I could put a car seat in AND still have room for someone else for trips where I needed a truck.

Ironically the Tundra I bought had a 100K miles more on it, but was in better condition as I haven't felt like putting any money into the 93' for a long time.

How easy was the fuel pump job? Or did a shop do it?

Truck has a 3 inch body lift so I was able to sit down between the drive shaft and exhaust and get'er done without dropping the tank. 15 minutes

After working on this truck for a little while I have become a fan of the body lift. I can move around and work on things unlike my previous 2000 tundra. I'm also saddened by the fact that the body lift kit has been discontinued for the 2005-06 Tundra's which I now have

Drove 250 miles last weekend cruise set on 65-75 probably a 70 mph average and fought a pretty good headwind the last 70 miles home. Got an astounding 13.8mpg.. Sadness was felt

I've been getting 17.6 in the city and 20 on the highway in my '05, but I drive like a grandpa. Also just had my spark plugs and O2 sensors replaced, which helped a lot.

Not sure as I have no lift over than the Billy Jean 5100 Shocks at one notch up from stock (1/2”?).

They slightly rub on a hard turn. I just make sure not to go all the way to full lock. I love the tires (Michelin Defenders LT).

Thanks I've got M Defenders as well but in 265/70/16. So far the tires are great, haven't tried them out in the wet or on the dirt tho. Just looking for a bigger tire.

I’ve been on this size tire since 2004. Did Dunflops and then BFG’s and they both were horrible. Switched to Michelins in 2007 (on the 3rd set now) and will never go back to another brand unless something changes.

The first set of Michelins were the M/S and they could have gone 70k easily, but I changed them in 2013 to to the newer M/S2. My trucks front end was getting tired by then and the tires wore unevenly resulting in me changing to the ‘Defender’ last fall.

I tow and haul occasionally so I adhere to tire changes every 5-6yrs regarless of miles. The first set in 2007 (the M/S) smelled and looked brand new for 3 years. The newer eco formula is different.

So far this last set of tires (Defender) is holding well. They were installed right after the front end was totally rebuilt. No visible odd wear like before when the front end was tired and beat.

I used to get 15 city couple months ago but has been steadily dropping and now I'm down to about 12. Changed oil, spark plugs, air filter. Tried seafoam too. As long as I don't go below 11 I'm fine with it for the most part.
