    Weight reduction, mostly rust.
I did the flush with valvoline high mile atf. It appeared to help with the lack of assist, but I think it was just because it had warmed up outside. Couple cooler mornings here and it basically the same. Not sure if the rack is original. No major leaks, though I did see wetness on the boot when I installed the new OEM lower ballz.

Makes sense, I’m sure your approach correlates with your end goal.

The rack I purchased is new from Toyota, I’m a little disappointed with some of what I’ve found out about them. Hoping mines doesn’t leak, since it seems like they are hit and miss, some leak, some don’t. After doing a little research, I’m keeping my fingers crossed in hopes the one in my truck is the original, seems like they are better build. I want a spare as part of my build, either way it’ll all work out at the end.

It's worth noting Toyota's 12-month warranty also applies to remanufactured parts. If you get a dud somehow, it shouldn't be too big of an issue to replace it, especially if you bought it in person.
