That member hasn't been back since 2021, I see by clicking on his username. Like so many, posted a few times then bailed on the forum/account.

Always costs 2x-3x as much (or more) to have someone else to it.

Decent subs usually run ~$200/ea at the low-end (no pun intended), so that's ~$600. Baffle board setup to mount them may run you another $50 in wood and an hour or two of time else $300-600 if you have someone else do that work, or there's actually a box available that'll hold two 8" subs in the larger hole (look 3 replies up) that runs about $300 shipped. I assume he has a dedicated amp, there's another $300-900 depending what you get. You'll need all the adapter cables depending whether you have OEM amp or not, assuming you already have a head unit with RCA outputs, you'll need to buy the RCAs and speaker wire, there's another $100-200 depending whether you get decent quality cables.

Basically looking at about $2k-$3k if you have someone else do it, maybe half that if you can do it all yourself. But for decent - not even saying high quality here - but decent stuff, you'll be out at least $1k in amps/subs/wiring/enclosure.

You'll also need to mitigate under-seat rattle from the subs blasting them, it's a common complaint from users using the rear under-seat storage for subs.

Ordered some budget subs for my underseat box. It's a dual 8. Thought it was single but it's dual 8. I'll remove that seat bottom plastic before I cut it up. I may just leave it out altogether. Subs should be in next week. I'll update then. My little amp isn't the most power but should be sufficient for a couple of 8 shallow subs. I think it's 300watts @ 2ohms.

I do like that JL Audio Stealthbox there is just one problem with it. The stupid price. Sigh.

Yeah JL charges premiums. But you are ultimately paying for exceptional engineering, absurd durability, OEM+ fitment, and great finishing. They’re basically giving you everything you want from a custom audio shop, but a shop would lose money trying to replicate it without molding JL’s product, they could never deliver at that price point.

The Q-Logic box I got for my AC is well made but nowhere near as thick-walled, rigid, perfect figment, nor finishing as a Stealthbox. It’s equally stealthy, just not near as nice. The price tag reflects it too, though my QL box was speedy IMHO. And when I added subs it wasn’t too far off from Stealthbox pricing

There’s definitely a lot in the car audio world that is overpriced and overhyped. Drivers especially. I think JL is about 10-20% overpriced on their stuff (retail), but they also force shops to price-fix, similar to what Weber Grills does. If you know a licensed dealer personally, I think you’d be surprised what they pay, I used to get my stuff at 30-40% off retail. Markup was great for our shop. We made killer coin off JL bitd, way more than JBL, but JBL’s price point was way more palatable to most customers who walked in the door, so we sold a hell of a lot more of it.

I chopped up my back seat to make a bucket and stuffed a huge box in there. I can’t figure out how to upload more than one picture though but I can do a full write up later if there is interest.

Looks good! With your cell phone, copy the photo from your picture app and paste it in your post. You’ll need to give the server a second to catch up. Once you see a thumbnail of your photo at the bottom, you know that your photo is now embedded into your post.

I mean, if that's too difficult and you're masochistic, you can just click the "upload file" button repeatedly, and upload pics one by one.

But it's way easier on your PC to just select all the pics you want to upload and drag/drop them into the "Write your reply..." box.

Added two 12’s to my son’s 2005 Tundra double cab. They are shallow mount subs at 3” deep. Running a 6 channel Memphis VIV 750.6. Not quite enough air space but only short by about 0.18 cuft. I added some poly fill and it sounds really good

Did the whole Rockford 300w self powered 8" under the passenger seat. Had the seat out yesterday to put on cleaned seat covers but didn't think to take a picture.

Have a 900w amp for Kicker door speakers under driver's seat. Hind sight being what it is I should have put the sub under the driver's side since that seat is height adjustable.

The 8" powered box just fits under the passenger side seat. Put some foam inserts around the sub to keep from vibrating on the seat frame.

Makes enough bass for me to be happy. Only listen to metal and wanted something punchy and responsive to the double bass kick. Adjustable bass knob mounted near driver's seat is nice too.
