A medium sized suv isnt as happy with a trailer as a 1gt. The sequoia is even better. My trailer is easily over 2klbs before the 200-300 lbs of chains tools and straps. And my xj or ‘97 4runner werent happy about it. Not enough wheelbase or spring.

i still think i need to stretch the tundra chassis with a sequoia chassis for a long bed. Tote a trailer like it isnt there. It also sucks setting up the blanket/tarp when loading things that leak.

Sounds like you need to sport truck it, honestly. Lower it 2/3 or 3/5 and go with a more sensible-mpg wheel/tire combo so you're lower to the ground and maybe eek out a little more aerodynamically, while giving yourself a new driving experience with the new stance. If you don't get beyond 2/3 you should be fine without having to adjust any of the driveline stuff, not sure about 3/5.

Something tells me the 1GT would be a really, really goddamn fun truck to throw sport suspension onto.

Purely the war. This same crap happens any war, every war. Wasn't it Desert Storm that ended up forever pushing us over $1 nearly forever? Then just when prices were getting back down, 9/11 kicked off more BS war that doubled the high point of the one prior, sending it up to $4-something, then the recession hit a few years later, high gas prices and that recession made for a fun crime experience down here.

It all sucks. Again, this is why I was seriously hunting for a 2.4L Taco 2WD. Has a bed to haul stuff, pretty solid mpg, looks good, some aftermarket options for either sport truck or offroad conversions, double-DIN radio opening going back several decades, extra cab options, it's a no-brainer. But at this point, a smaller sedan hybrid like either a Prius or maybe the RAV4 hybrid seem like really damn good options rn.

Beautiful pre-face lift 5th gen. Those OG 5th gens are some of my favorites.

Thanks. I’m trying to find a new front bumper plastic, so I can remove that winch and throw it in the truck!
It’s the mom-mobile but it has served us great!

I just canceled my arb front locker as it's 3 months after the order went in and still not here. I have front and rear gears so it's now time to figure out if I'm doing a locker at all or just doing 4.56 with LSD in the back and open in the front. @alb1k what do I do?

I've looked at a few setups and it seems to depend on if you are doing front rear or both. I would have to research it to give any real advice. TrueTracs are really popular if you don't need selectable. Some people use different types for the front and the rear in 4WD. Someone on here that has 4WD must have some insight. I think it's hard to go wrong with selectable front and rear, and that is a shit ton of money. I'm going to punt :anonymous:

    I've considered a sport-truck.
But I'd want to lose my whole mind if I did that. Pick up an S10, Taco, or hardbody chassis, shove a modern turbo 4cyl in it, hammer it on its nuts, big C-notch in the back, 4-linked rear w/coilovers & airbag helpers, long arms (double wishbone) up front, rack n pinion, Vette knuckles, wilwood discs all around, etc. Basically a solid-axle sports car with a truck body over it. #fullsend

find soft wet grass. Soft enough to sink in a bit. Thats where i see lockers being worth it. It was more prevelent around houston, but hard locking sounds like the plan for achievement. Especially if i want some predictability to crawling over things.

Also depends on how crazy you want to get. 4WD with open/LSD is pretty capable. I don't think @Casper421 has his ARB rear in yet and he has been pretty successful from what I gather. @Cruzer Tries to climb walls - he has front and rear ARB. I got selectable because my drive only pushes so two wheels is a big help. With the push and pull of 4WD, it might worth some type of auto, like a TrueTrac. Those are more affordable and cheaper since you are already going in there for gears. Wish I was more help.

I should clarify a bit I think? My truck is 4wd. I'm spending a fair number of pennies so cost isn't the primary concern. I am 99% confident on using one of the two LSD's for the rear when I do the regear. I want this truck highly driveable on and off road by a novice/idiot such as my kids once they are older or any friend who needs to borrow it. The entire point of this truck is to be as bulletproof as I can make it and then use it for anything it's safe to use it for.

For the front, given that I nuked the ARB it's really Eaton or open diff. I'm ok with spending on the Eaton now that I'm off the hook on the ARB. I'm going to try to send 3rds to Zuk for the gear and I'm sure that's going to cost. I have new cv axles from whever you guys said to get them from, I forget the 3 letter name.

I think it's really Eaton or no Eaton at this point. I don't expect Zuk will touch anything other than Eaton.

It's probably Eaton E-Locker at like 1200 for the unit. Eaton TrueTrac for a bit over half, but also install and forget it, or open as the three options now. The ARB is reportedly strongest, but hard to get it seems.

Ordered at the end of November during whatever black friday sales they had. As of today it's still not received. Who knows if they even attempted to ship it. Who knows if they have anything to ship. Maybe it's on a boat somewhere. No idea. Nytro does not impress. They did send me two of one gear set and two of the LSD though so I can live with the 3 month wait.

ARB was my pick b/c it seemed robust but with Zuk refusing to touch it, I soured on that plan.

Eaton e locker or open are about all I'd consider I think.

That's happened to me on a couple of things. Shops take orders for what they don't have and then order it themselves without having a clear timeline.

If I do order up an Eaton, anyone know where I might have a chance of it actually being in stock or getting to me in a month or less?

I gotta call nitro after work and get some answers. I’ve checked around and there are no nitro 4.88’s available anywhere. Might go revolution or Yukon.

Eaton e-locker for easy steering and additional grip when necessary (if ever necessary). Also rebuild the rear LSD, unless you also already got a torsen for the rear (true trac, grip pro, etc.)
